Default 924 S / 944 lifter broke

Recent DE my daughter started up the car to go out in a session. Heard a loud clicking noise so she shut it off. Pulled the cambox and found one lifter that you can push with your finger and the oil squirts out. Everything looks ok, cam looks great. My inclination is with 86/K on car, which is now only used as a track rat, to change them all but I was told by a Major 944 race parts supplier & builder that I only need to change the busted ones. At $80 each that's cool for the wallet (going to do a valve job since it's this far apart) but just doesn't sit well with me. Do most replace only the busted bucket or replace them all?

How long did it take you to remove the cam tower? I have a few bad lifters; not busted but I feel they don't ever fully pump up... I can hear clack-a-clack slightly at idle gets louder at higher rpm. I traced it to the rear of cam tower.
Anyway: I have found two common thoughts regarding your question.
1: The INA lifters have a reputation of going bad in a few thousand miles...
2: If your other lifters are fine continue to use them. You might soak them in aft fluid, parts cleaner, or anything that might breakdown any crud in them.
Of course prime them with oil before install and replace the old lifters back in the original holes they came from.

Let us know what you end up doing and how long it took; as I said I will be doing the same thing soon.

I had two lifters go bad at the track yesterday. It took 15 minutes to remove the cam tower.

So the only new replacements are INA produced? And they don't hold up. Who made the original lifters? Anyone know what Lindsey sells?

Lindsey sells the INA lifters. I plan to use good used lifters.
