Post replacing front bushings..difficult?

I need to replace the front bushings on an 86 944 N/A and was wondering if it was a difficult job for an amateur (with the Rennlist as backup) or should I leave this one to the mechanic. I would prefer to save some money and do it myself. Time would not be a problem as of right now. Any ideas?

If you mean the bushings on the sway bar, definately a DIY job. If you mean the control arms, I would recommend that you remove the arms yourself and take them to someone with a press to remove and reinstall them. If you go this route, you don't need to take the strut loose, just the ball joint, so your alignment should be disturbed very little, if at all. HTH

The most difficult part of the sway bar bushings is getting them on the bar. I suppose there are several tricks but a shot of dry silicone (comes in a spray can) took care of this for me.
Dave is right on target too with the need for a mech with a press, before you even get that far ya might make sure the ball joints are good. Many times they are not. If bad, then might want to address that first. 86 944 means you have aluminum control arms, consider swapping them out with steel or sending them off for ball joint replacement. Rebuilding the front suspension on 944 is really not that difficult. Learn the parts, learn the typical failure points, inspect carefully, fix it, align it, drive it. My .02...Bruce

The bushings that went bad are on the passenger side. My power steering fluid reservoir cracked and leaked, causing the bushings to rot (what the mechanic told me a while ago). I need to replace the reservoir also, but that shouldn't be too bad, right? I have a long list of things to fix this summer. A few things went bad in the time span of one month and I was waiting until summer to fix it all. I feel guilty of Porsche neglect, but I really didn't have much of a choice.
