Default Resurrecting Frankencar

A few years ago I took a mild manner 924S with 38K miles and turned it into my track/race car. That car was a blast and the original build with the addition of the 968 engine was documented on Rennlist (https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=23673). Unfortunately, the car was killed at Carolina Motorsports Park on May 1st of this year. The tub was damaged beyond repair but most of the expensive parts are fine (engine, trans, etc.). Quitting was never an option, so I made two phone calls and found a 944S that was mostly stripped. The plan is to build a faster, meaner Frankencar. What I have done to date can be found at frankencar.blogspot.com and I will continue to make updates here.

So, how I am going to make the car faster and meaner. Well, 227 rwhp was just not enough, so I'm going to push it to 300 rwhp and keep the weight at 2500 with driver. How, low boost 968 supercharger from 928 motorsports, already ordered. Man this is going to be fun

Nice!!
Good luck and keep sharing the progress. I know you made a wise choice on the supercharger.
Regards.

Hope to get started on the engine tonight. Top end was rebuilt last year so it won't be touched but I plan on installing new main (original) and rod bearings (two years old) and of course do the front end. Will also install my crankscraper while in there.

How are you going to get it down to 2500 lbs with driver?

Strip everything, fiberglass front end, and lexan hatch. Heck, I ran a 50 lb battery just to make weight at 2500 in the last car!

Plan on removing as much undercoating as my old arms can manage :-o

Eliminating wiring and going with a much better system, see below.

I'm sorry to hear that, if you don't mind me asking, how did the carrera flares come out of the incident?

Awesome! I always enjoyed watching your vids, and am glad to see you sticking with the porsche engine. Some boost should be really fun!

Hit was in the front, no issues with the flares whatsoever. They were removed and given to a good friend for his 924S race car. In return, he will do all the welding when we put the old cage into the new tub.

It's been awhile since I worked on Franky, I've been busy helping my wife deal with moving her studio. Now that that is done, I can get back to it. So today I cut the lower radiator support off and moved it one inch lower to accommodate a 951 radiator. I also spent time trying to get the last of the glue out of the interior, thankfully that is just about done. Tomorrow I will finish the interior and plan on pressure washing the entire car to get years of grime off of it.

sorry to hear about the old car. I've watched your posts over the years as you progressed to racing. you and I took a similar path, except I moved to BMWs 5 years ago.

i'll be interested to see how the car progresses.

I started in BMW's, an E36 and E46 M3 before jumping to a track car that I could afford to crash (good thing!).

Good progress made today. Keith (cruise98) came over an helped for most of the afternoon. With one of us using the torch and the other wielding the pnuematic gasket scraper, we made short work of the interior. Next came the xylene and then a quick power wash of the entire car. Next comes dent pulling and some bondo
