Runs for a second, then dies.
Hi All-
I've just got the timing finally done on my 944, what should've been the last step in an epic journey to get her running. However, she's doing something weird.. She'll start, but unless I give it some gas, the engine dies after about a second. I'm headed back out to the shop to check the fuses, give the DME relay a good shake, and clean the AFM connections.
I realize those probably aren't the problem, so what else could it be? I suspect the fuel filter (it's been sitting for awhile, crud in the tank may have settled and clogged it?), and if I can't fix it right quick, the filter is getting done as it probably needs to be done anyways.
Anyways, I'd really appreciate any suggestions or advice.
Thanks
Ian

how are the vaccuum hoses? i know vaccuum leaks can give idle probs so maybe that's a place to look. i'd wait for someone smarter than me to respond before you go through the trouble of checking them tho

I would say either vacuum lines or afm. After my rebuild my car had the same problem of not staying running and it was because of a broken vacuum line. A non-functioning AFM would sorta fo the smae thing.

A non-functioning (or unplugged <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" /> ) AFM will make the car die out immediatly no matter what you do. Since giving it gas keeps it running, I don't think it'll be the AFM.

That happened when I had a bad reference sensor in my 84... then again it also happened when I knocked the bottom part of my intake boot off of my 86.
Will it stay running if you give it gas? Thats what happened with the reference sensor.
The no vacuum problem would kick over once and then not go at all.

When I knocked the bottom part of my intake boot off it took me the good part of a day to figure it out... I went through all the steps also..
dme relay
out of gas?
checked for spark
AFM
then started going over all the vacuum lines and found it last.
