Post Drivers side power window regulator replacement

My power window goes down fine, and goes about half way up fine. Then it just sort of goes nowhere or moves slightly up and down no more than a 1/8". If I pull up on the window while pushing the button, the window goes up but will still fall back down until it reaches nearly alll the way up. Is this the regulator gear teeth bad?

No it is the regulator joints and guide wheels. No real way to a lasting fix that I have ever seen. You got to buy a new one.

I have a complete regulator from a 1986 944. It should fit, shouldn't it?

Yes, if it for the correct side. I think even the old 924s are the same one.

Any tips for replacement? I've replaced domestic regulators before, but never a Porsche. I probably need tome $750 special tool that has been stored in Germany and must be flown in on the Concord.

Not really. Helps to have an extra pair of hands around on reinstall, or a big roll of duct tape.

When you get the thing loose you won't believe it can fit out through the rear hole punched in the inner sheet metal, but it will.
