Post Anyone know of any 951's for sale in eastern PA?

I'm getting ready to start the search for my very own 951. I've been looking all over ebay and the local classifieds, but haven't had any luck finding what I'm looking for.

Now I know I should wait for the right one to come along, but theres no harm in look at all the ones in the area.

I'm in eastern PA, close to allentown. Does anyone know of any 951's in the area that are in the range of $7500 - $8500?

Ribs: Is that 951 close to you still for sale?

Last I checked (a week ago friday) it was. I'll get you that girl's phone #...hold on a sec...(410)543-0415. I would definitely make her get a PPI before you drive 187 miles, although I have been having trouble finding a qualified porsche shop in my area...turbopop, you out there? I drove it and thoroughly examined it, and it was a very solid car...much nicer than my car was, and cheaper, too. IIRC, it did have a couple of minor issues (motor mounts could use refreshing, a minor oil leak, the clutch pedal needed to be adjusted to remove the free-play before it engauges the master cylinder, and a total lack of documentation, which may or may not be a minor issue). If you want me to find a shop and ask her to get a PPI for the car, I'll do it tomorrow. Here was my unofficial review of the car:

Alright...I went and took a look at the 951 that girl becky is selling for $7 g's. Its a very nice car...interior is near mint condition besides a small amount of wear on the driver's seat side bolstering. The outside is in very good condition too...its silver, not green by the way...there are a couple of small dents (one on the right rear fender buldge edge, and another on the hood from a crappily installed alarm horn) which I took pictures of, 1 small scratch, and the usual (but very mild) chipping in the front, but none of these defects were noticable unless you look for them (I went over it with a fine tooth comb). The car has about 120 miles to go before it gets to the big 100K mark. The clutch is very grabby...it is obviously not the stock clutch...once I got used to it it was easy to modulate, but at first, not being used to it and coming off of a toyota clutch, I was a bit herky jerky when driving. There is a small amount of play before the clutch pedal engauges the master cylinder(this can be adjusted), but overall, I liked the feel of the clutch better than the stock one I have in my car after I got used to it. There is a small amount of oil leaking from somewhere...most likely the oilpan gasket, but there wasn't enough leaking to leave oilspots anywhere around her house that I could see...just to put a small layer of funk along the backside of the oilpan (I didn't see any oil reach the suspension bushings or balljoints, so it looked like a problem that could be delt with whenever you feel the need to change the rodbearings or pull the motor out of the car...it was not bad at all). The motor mounts seemed like they could use a refreshing, but weren't bad at all (just a little bit of vibration at idle and low revvs...nothing like my car was though). The wheel bearings all seem to be in top shape as I spun each wheel when the car was off the ground and didn't hear any binding or scraping, and there was no lateral play in the wheels. The suspension was in top shape...the car was still stiff with very little body roll, no strange popping or other bad noises came from it. The car pulled really hard...it has APE stage II chips, which of course are good for about 30-40 wheel HP. It also has some unknown exhaust modification...the only thing I saw that didn't look stock was the crossover pipe from the turbo to the split for the wastegate...it looked thicker around than mine and welded on. The wheels felt like they were in perfect balance, the car pulled straight with no dogtracking (I got it up to 110 on my testdrive), the brakes are much different feeling than my car (the pedal seems to require more effort but has less travel than my car)...maybe it is just that the system is properly bled while my brakes have always had air in them...it still stops on a dime though. The engine sounds very healthy, with a small bit of belt whine that a lot of 944's/951's have. The temp needle did get close to the 2nd hash on my test run, but I was pushing the car very hard the whole time, and it came back down to about 1/2 way when I let it idle in front of her house. I guess thats about it...if I had the money, I would definitely buy it, but I am too deep into my own 951 to think about getting another one now...let me know if you like it. Here is a webpage I made with a ****load of pictures I took when I went out there: http://ribs.americainteractive.com/beckys951.htm . Some of them are huge. Cool stuff...later.

And here is an assload of pictures I took of every part of the car:

For the price, it is a very nice car, and if I was in the market, I would definitely pick it up. If you end up coming down to salisbury and buying the car, you owe me a beer. Gotta get some sleep after recovering from a god-awful hang over all day (a bunch...like 10 or 12 of my friends came in from out of town last night and we killed a keg...so...being that there are about 165 beers in a keg, 12 people were drinking off of it (including a couple of girls) that means on average everybody drank almost 14 beers...I guess we can drink), so later.

Thumbs down

Ribs, Thanks for all the info. Your help was greatly appreciated. I will not be considering this car any further due to:
-Lack of receipts from work "done by PO"
-Sketchy nature of info given to me (The owners boyfriend "could tell it was a B&M hi-perf clutch and was perfect by just looking under car)
-"Mechanic" Boyfriend did all of the maintenance
-Lack of enthusiam to find a Porsche shop in the area to arrange a PPI AT MY EXPENSE

I am not willing to roll the dice in this situation.

Thanks for the info ribs. It will still be about 2 weeks before I physically have the money to buy the car, so if its still there at that point I might take a drive down to take a look at it.

The lack of info might not be too too bad and I will be selling my tercel after I buy my 951, so if it looks good, maybe the ~$2500 I can get for my car will give me a tune-up to assure its reliability.

Thanks again for all the info, I migh take a trip down there on my day off to look it over.

tecart,

Looks like you're my neighbor. Did you mean East Amherst. Are you in the PCA?

Last year I headed down to the autocross with the local PCA region (URL=http://www.rtr-pca.org/]www.rtr-pca.org[/URL] Though I have yet to own a porsche ). The place where they held it rejected their application to use the lot, so I'm not sure where I'm gonna go this year.

If its still there I think I might put a deposit on it this weekend.

I'll have to give her a call tomorrow during work to see if I can arrange a meeting, but thats _everything_ I've dreamed about for over a year, so I think I'm sold.

Quick Reply: Anyone know of any 951's for sale in eastern PA?
