Turbo vs NA Poll
I personally have never driven a Turbo(my VW Jetto does not count), but I want to ask this question of those of you that have driven both fast NA's and fast Turbos of any breed. If you would have exact 0-60 and 1/4 times( say 5.4 and 12.5 sec.), would you prefer to get there in an NA or Turbo engine?

I own 2 of both... See my sig!
But i am a boost addict so bad that I am supercharging one of my NA cars.
I am not really concerned with 0-60 and 1/4 times as much as the actual fun factor. I have owned several other NA cars and I enjoy them very much, but driving a 951 is really another ballgame!

Considering equal times to the same speed, i would much rather have an n/a.
For shear acceleration, forced induction cannot beat. Anytime a friend asks me to "show them what she can do", i hit the expressway and basically go from cruising at 5th and downshift to 3rd and punch it. The pin your head to the back of the seat acceleration never will cease to amaze. However i would much rather have a quick and high rev engine, that is just my personal taste. Turbo lag is not something i like unless its coming from a 930 Turbo, id much rather have the power on tap. In my opinion to drive spiritedly (im not talking speeding like a mad man, just having some fun on the backroads), its tough to do in a turbo because the car just wants to go fast. There is no real inbetween like on a n/a.

For them to have equal power, the N/A would be a pretty impractical street car. I haven't owned a 951, but have owned other turbo cars. Overall I'd have to say I prefer N/A for a DD.

Depends on the car...
RWD N/A hopefully something with good displacement and TQ (LS1 comes to mind)
FWD Turbo hopefully something with small displacement and low TQ (Honda motor comes to mind)
Having alot of low down TQ in a FWD car usually leads to nothing but traction issues.

The NA chassis tends to feel lighter and more tossable. The 951 chassis has more grip, but can feel a bit heavy at times.
The 951 is clearly a faster car. If you want straight line speed the turbo can do that for you. No NA (not even 3.0L S2 or 968) can get you really good straight line acceleration. However I find straight line acceleration rather boring.
I have a stock 944 Turbo S (owned since 1997) and had a few stock NA's and race light weight 944 NA.

my NA feels super tossable, actually throwable, in a regular set of driving even to the grocery store i do things in that car that would make my old mazda flip over
ive driven 951s and a 968 and while they certainly were much, much faster while accelerating, when it came to a corner it just felt so much heavier...this is part of the reason why i choose to develop my car rather than "sell it and buy a turbo"

I view it as my N/A is a more raw experience, while the 951 is more of a brutal refinement! Both are fun to drive, for different reasons, even though theyr are based on the same core chassis, they are very different cars....
OH, and my N/A is not as fast as the 951, but it is still quick compared to many many other cars out there... I have been toying with suspension upgrade... but don't want to ruin the N/As feeing... I don't consider the N/A better or worse than the 951...just different!
FWIW, my N/A is all new stock suspension... stock springs, tbs, Sachs/boge struts and shocks, rubber bushings, still need to rebuild the ball joints and replace the tie rod ends, but you get the idea..bone stock 88 N/A suspension, with roll bar option.
my 951 is full coil over Koni adjustables set full stiff front and rear, replica rothmans cup strut tower bar, elephant racing monoball inserts, ground control camberplates, 300lb front hypercoils (soon to upgrade rear to ER monos, poly bronze spring plates, TB delete, and 550lb coils) lowered almost 2 inches on MY02 18 inch rims with 225/35/18 front rubber and 295/30/18 rear rubber and it drives like it is glued to the pavement... deffinitly rides like a full on race car... and at the end of it all it will be as close to a full on race car as you can get without a cage!
And at the risk of repeating myself, I drive them daily.... 150 miles.... mostly highway....
