Post Roll Cage

I was looking around and was wondering if there was any other places, besides Autopower, that makes a cage? Or do I have to get one fabricated. I really like the ones from the cup cars; is there any way to get one of those? Thanks for anything.

Autopower's the low end stuff - OG Racing has a nice setup, but pricey. I explored this and found a custom built cage was the best option relative to safety and cost. Try finding a local place to give an estimate - looking at ~1k or more.

"Matter" cages were used in most cup cars - hard to find, but I've seen two on Ebay over the last few years. They're quite heavy, and probably outdated by today's standards (be sure to check the GCR for your club/class)

Good Luck!

I will second Skip's comments on Autopower. If you're looking for the bare minimum to satisfy the letter of the rules, an Autopower will do. If you want something good, pass on it. A welded cage, if designed properly, will add significant rigidity to the chassis as well as provide safety.

I did see a nice bolt-in cage in a European 968 CS at a DE a couple of months ago. It was really exceptional for a bolt-in cage. IIRC it was made by Safety Devices.

I would opt for a welded cage! I had mine built the guy who built the cages for the neon challenge cars a few years back....... I got alot of cage for 700.00......

Its nice to get the front bars to go further forward than the autopower units which drop before the dash Mine goes through the dash and down by my feet........

In the 914 we have a Safety Devices cage and I must say that its one of the nicest bolt together cages I have ever seen. Great price too! Not sure if they do make a cage for the 944 though.

i bought a safety devices cage myself for my 84 944. i love it. the fit is vey tight, and it adds a bit to the rigidity event though it's a bolt in. the cool thing, i had it installed before my senior prom. i unbolted the front section of the cage and all was good. anyway, i was way impressed with the welds and the overall quality. would buy again. good luck!

by the way, i'm new. hello all!

For the people with the bolt-in cages, are they a true bolt-in or do you have to weld in mounting plates to bolt the cage on to? I have done two cages before in a Mustang and a Miata. In the Mustang you had to weld in the plates and in the Maita you didn't, so I was just wondering. Thanks for the responses.

Matt

P.S. Squzzy welcome to the board!!!

the safety devices cage has plates that you weld into the carfirst. i thing thats the reason it adds a bit to the rigididty even though it's a bolt in.

on a side note, the plates weld onto the boxy structures that run the length of the cockpit right buy the doors. (i'm sure they have a name for this, but i don't know what it is) these are part of the unitbody and are very strong compared to the floorpan.

i had speedware motorsports in washington install the cage. they did a very good job but said it was a total pain in the ***. i thought it was worth it though
