so which wires were shorting out? Did you fix it right away or can it wait.

The huge bundle of wires under the steering column had rubbed on a bracket enough that it cut the insulation on one, which shorted and melted the next and so on...lost 18 wires. Gauges went crazy, smoke coming out anytime the key was on. Cut out a few inches of burned wire and replaced and carefully re-routed it.
