Well the top would not be very cheap. Couple grand I figure. A lot less if you have some reasonable connections. I can certainly comment on how much fun it is cruise around with the top down! It is an attention getter!
Up my way, you can't get one for under $12K, and more common in the $15K range. Now at that price, you get some service history... So I say, buy and it and do your own service. Same money, and you will KNOW the service history. You could easily spend $12K and get a car with 3yr old serviced belts etc.

Well worth it if it halfway passes PPI. Heck if you have a coupe you could probably get away with not fixing the top and only driving in the sun. Tape up the old one in case of a flash rain shower and otherwise leave it down all of the time.

You put the top up? Mine is now top down more than up (garage storage, fair weather car mostly)
It is a good point. Leave the top down. Wouldn't be a DD though. It might get you by until you can get the top repaired/replaced.
