Interesting that he is billing this as a 944. Note year (1980) and VIN (92AA02...) I guess its something to do with a high-mileage 924NA, but it just doesn't seem fair.

I was in the understanding that the 944 was released in 1982 not 1980.

Yeah the car is ugly, but it appears to have been done right, if that is possible.

[quote] But why on earth would you use a 4.3 V6, that is one of the worst motors every concieved by man (ok not that bad, but it is up there).

The engine, a 4.3L vortec is from my experiences actually one of the better gm engines. It is small, and can pack a punch. I have ridden in trucks with them, of course slightly modified, but at the dyno they were playing with numbers around 300hp, on a streetable, reliable engine. Plus, you can get a complete running engine for under a thousand. If I had my engine blow up, I would consider it, right with a 327, 350, or a 351, but then again I don't think I could actually go through with it.

Oh and right now the car is only $710, not too bad.

I think it's alright. I mean, the guy obviously took what he knows (american engines) and put it into his car, seems like he did a good job with it. Not saying that I would put an older v6 into a car built for an 4, but it just looks like he took care and did it well

Don't get me wrong, I would never do a motor conversion, but wouldn't V6 be a better choice for a conversion if you were gonna do it??? You can still make good power and not upset the original balance as much as a big heavy V8 would.

IIRC, it is a 350 with 2 cylinders cut off, if you are going to do a gm swap it kinda makes more sence than a v8. The engine can put out good low end torque, decent HP and still weighs less than a v8 so it doesnt screw up the ballance.
As far as the rest of the car goes, I can't believe all the Chicago area people on this board have let this happen....

Dave, normally I wouldn't condone hunting people down and.....

I like the line that it was shipped to Germany just to drive it on the Autobahn. Heh heh, as if they validates this thing.

I've seen worse. Nothing surprises me anymore.

If I was going to do an engine swap, I would've put a different engine in.

dads 85.5 is currently getting an engine swap... guess what to

a mammoth 2.5L 4 cylinder made by... PORSCHE

just the core engine out of an 84, adding on the 85.5 accessories, and in it goes! the beast comes back to life.

the reason for the swap - horrendously scored #3 cylinder leading to oilpan compression (leaking oilpan gasket, burning oil) and the new motor is a gem, ran great when it came out of the old car, and will work nicely in the 85.5

we went with a Porsche engine, because the minute you put anything else in, it ceases to be a Porsche. i can't beleive this guy is selling it as a "Porsche" where's the lawyers!!!???

bottom line - why disgrace a quality german car with that, even if it does make more power? what a waste.
