I recently picked up a torsion carrier that has custom welded arms on it attached with ball joints. I was told something like it is necessary when deleting the torsion bar for coilovers. Since it keeps all the geometry in tact I think I can get away with using stock rubber spring plate bushings with the coil overs, right?

Snapped a couple pics. This carrier came off of Michael(Sausagehacker)'s car back when it was a race car.
It also has a custom pair of these guys that fit up to it.

I know nothing about its history other than it came off of sausagehackers 83 ex-race car a few years back. I assume the previous owner to Michael had this piece welded up when he was building the track car relatively recently. Don't know of any deep history. It is a very well made piece and I can't wait to install on my car with coil overs.
If anyone was looking to copy the design i could get more details on how it's put together.

It was on my car well before I bought it in New Hampshire. It turns out that Cale (Admiralkhole on here) bought it from the PO, and my car was returned to a normal torsion bar setup while maintaining the Bilstein shocks before I picked it up. I hadn't met Cale at this point, who happens to live about an hour away from me here in TX. It was just a weird coincidence that the parts came back together after both went across the country at different times.
Cale is a good friend of mine now, and I was holding on to the torsion carrier for him because I had extra space and now we have bestowed it on Keith to complete the love triangle
(and the 3 of us were all physically present when that happened)

Looking at the PCA rules for stock class cars, under the heading "Suspension" on page 13, line "G" reads:
Spring type must remain as supplied by the factory.
I believe this means that adding coilovers to a 944 S2 places the car in a "prepared" class, my guess is SP2.
If true, this makes the decision very easy for me; I stay with torsion bars for at least the next two or three years.
