As I mentioned, the last five digits of the VIN being 00720 had me wondering about this in the first place... perhaps it WAS a bit of a pipe dream!

I could send you the number in Germany if you shoot me an email. jonnyflyboy@yahoo.com

I'd prefer just responding to emails re. the German contact... I had to promise not to give it out on a board such as this to get it.
But the Porsche North America contact is:
1-800-porsche
Ask for Costumer committment
They can issue certificate's of authenticity which often times have the date of birth on them.
Feel free to shoot me an email for the contact info.

My 'new' '83 ends in 459894; anyone know where that would put her?

Julie,
Don't know when your's was built, but the sticker on mine says May 83, so this month is here birthday. VIN ends with 461615. Old gal turned 20 this month, just think, another year and she can have a beer legally.. ha ha...
have fun, good luck on the hunt for your first 944

Kewl! Then I can presume she's born in May '83 or earlier. That at least gives me an idea! I had no idea so few of these were released in the States.

Well, I'm working on her again today; I tried to see the date inside the hood, but the damned latch broke on me, lol!
Patience, patience.
