I've been inside mine three times now. CAREFULLY pry up the backside of that black bezel - it is very soft metal and will lift up rather easily, but the reason I say be careful is you can warp the front if you pry too hard from the back. The pry-marks on the back won't be visible when you put it back in the dash, but warping on the front will be. After you get the bezel off, take the screws off the back, and the little electronics board, and the silver housing will slide right off over the speedo-cable connection.

Good luck.

I tried pushing on the bezel surround, but there's really no lip to pry. And there's really no give from the black bezel

There is no lip, you have to create your own with a very small flat-head screwdriver. That's kind of what I tried to mean when I said you won't be able to see the pry-marks when it's back in the dash. Wedge the screwdriver where the bezel back meets the silver housing, then start bending. Or, send it out and pay someone $175 to bend it for you.

HTH.

It's really not clear from info posted about this that the housing is like a can with the open end formed with a 90 degree flange. So the rim of the open end (near the dial) is actually larger in diameter than the rest of the housing. The bezel is formed around this flange.

You must CAREFULLY slide a small, flat tool under the back of the bezel and pry up a little, then move around a bit and pry some more. Your objective is to pry the back of the bezel up enough that the diameter of the bezel is larger than the diameter of the flange.

I hope this helps. It is hard to explain.
