sounds like the heater control valve clip (plastic) broke and the water control valve is wide open = MEGA HEAT.

Search the Posts for Heater Control Clip and there should be the part number and repair process - very easy to repair.

Early cars don't have that same heater clip. On my 84 I had two major problems. One was that heater control slider wire was bent and useless. Also, the heater control valve was extremely difficult to toggle. I added some grease and WD40 and it freed it up pretty well. This was also part of the reason why the control cable was so screwed up. I fixed the cable too and now everything works great.

shortyboy,

get into your engine and look by the firewall behind the intake manifold. your gonna need to look hard and deep to find it. its completely visible though. what your searching for is a little white piece of plastic that has a wire hooked onto it. you need to pull that plastic piece closed and this will turn off the heater control vent. then NO MORE HOT AIR.
