Post The new Porsche Variable Speed Heating (Update)

What option code is Variable Speed Heating? Here's the problem: It dipped into the upper 30's last night. I left for work this morning, turned on the heat - nothing. The engine warmed up nicely (first mark) but no heat in the car. Got on the boost to pass a car (it's all 2 lane roads to work) and got heat! Slowed back to the speed limit - no heat. This goes on for 30 - 45 minutes. Finally started doing 55 - 60 mph in 4th gear - viola, heat. Slowed down to 45-50 mph, no heat. Could this be air in the cooling system? I just had the t-belts done, maybe the mech didn't bleed it. Any ideas? I hope the PO didn't pay extra for this option from the Porsche dealer

Bleed the cooling system. Once you've driven at good RPM's for a bit, bleed it again to get rid of air tucked into pockets.

Definitely Michelle. Had a friend with a Taurus the same problem. I bled that freaking car for 4 hours and never fixed the problem, you should have better luck though. Has to do with water not getting into the heater core.

I think if there ever is a poll of the most common and sometimes biggest pain causing problem, air in the cooling sys/bleeding would win hands down!

I just had a thought (Yeah, I know, first time for everything!) I have a Motive Powerbleeder. If I rig up a fitting on a radiator cap, will it have enough pressure to bleed the cooling system? I'm thinking this would work. What do y'all think?

Remember to turn the heat on HIGH and have the car at temp before attempting to bleed it. Jacking the front end up also helps...it can be a pain. Might want to check the overflow tank return line to insure it is connected properly and not cracked.

Some repair shops do have a machine that will flush and refill the system and it is suppose to eliminate any air in the system to boot.

Example : <a href="http://www.allstates.com/radiator_flush_and_fill.htm" target="_blank">http://www.allstates.com/radiator_flush_and_fill.htm</a>

Whew! Thanx guys. I was beginning to worry that I'd have to sell the 951 and get one with the Variable Speed Heating delete option! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Damn - I'm glad you asked that and got a good response, I have the exact same problem, but seeing as it's spring, I really didn't care

Next up - Fixing the heater controls to turn off the top and bottom vents!

F18Rep- Yeah, kinda like that but I don't have an air compressor. I was wondering if the Motive bleeder would be enough pressure. I could drill a hole in a spare radiator cap and epoxy a barbed fitting in it and connect the bleeder to that. Has any one tried it?

Michelle, you don't need Variable Speed Heating delete, just go straight for one of those p-cars with the cooling system delete option

There are pumps specifically made to pressurize the cooling system...

MichelleJD,
Isn't that supposed to be "Howel" instead of "Howe"?

I would suggest this may be a vacuum leak?
