If you have the little black plastic things, you can push them into the top of the panel and press in the emblem. Would be hard to not dent the header panel without removing it though. If you use the spring clips, then you go fasten them from the bottom side. The spring clips look kind of like the pinch things that go on the back of a pin that you wear on cloths.

I removed the header panel on mine. I didn't know for sure how it was fastened. You can use a plastic putty knife to pull off the ones with the plastic gromets. I think the grommets were what was on most of the cars from new.
