In our Physics class one group built a project with an infinite loop that could be broken at any time set on a timer. Try beating infinite...

I take it there was some source of energy for the system. This would be due to the fact that perpetual motion is a little tricky to say the least. I have never seen anything "tricky" enough to overcome the difficulties though I saw one machine that had promise.

I thought that it was impossible to make an perpetual motion machine on earth, with air friction and gravity. but I could be wrong, I just have ever heard of anyone making one.

For the last week I've actually been teaching myself what perpetual motion is and the various attempts at it. It seems that numerous machines break either the First law of Thermophysics (or dynamics) or the Second, but never both. It often involves an over-ballanced wheel and some screw device. Interesting to say the least

For their physics project, there was a battery pack, which was turned on during some point in the sequence. It activated a motor-driven verticle conveyor belt, which picked up the ball and dropped it in a funnel. It would go through various stages, and eventually end up at the conveyor again. When the timer went off, another motor pulled the first funnel out of the way, revealing a second tunnel that led to a switch that threw an egg and broke (the end goal). So it go essentially go until the battery died. Right now we're building trebuchets. My group's is going to be HUGE!

very cool commercial, one of the best ever

i read an article about this commercial

no cgi used for the actual tricks, just the little spark effects etc
all shot in 1 take
although it did take about 600 takes to get it 'perfect'

and the wheels went uphill because they have bolts and screws inside of them, supposedly, although its so hard to believe ..

I think there is a 200 foot wingspan flying wing using energy generated from solar cells on the tops of the wings to spin about 15 propellers. I think it was designed by one of the major schools here (MIT, Caltech, etc) and it flew for 24hrs before the designers voluntarily elected to bring it down. It weighs about 300 lbs or something ungodly but it huge. They said in theory it could fly forever if weather conditions cooperated and enough people babysat it.

I dont know if solar energy crosses the line of perpetual motion.

I have a co-worker at work who's pie-hole is in perpetual motion because it never stops jibber jabbering.

I have always been fascinated with this experiment since I was 10 years old. I wonder if it was fixed in some way. It just seems like it by the way the wheels complete with tires and air actually moved up the incline! Still absolutely amazing!!!

I had a physics professor that once said that he would quit teaching (or trying to...) if anyone ever brought him a perpetual motion device or if someone came into the classroom and moved something from one place to another using only their mind.

There is only one perpetual motion machine, and its pretty easy to build. Strap a piece of buttered bread to the top of a cat. Instant perpetual motion!

Tadi, doesn't that experiment work the same way when you put scotch tape on a cat's nose???
