It may be cheaper to buy a parts car and use the lifters from that.

I'm curious to know how the resurface lifters hold up. Sometimes the surface hardness is removed during the resurfacing. Years ago we try resurfacing hydraulic gear pumps. Not much was removed but it killed the surface hardness and they didn't last long after that.

It's been a while since I went looking, but sets of used lifters for these engines were pretty common on E-Bay a few years ago.

I wonder if wouldn't be possible to sleeve the bores in the cam housing and use lifters from something else? That would open the choices available, and the original design is huge and heavy compared to most other engines. A lighter lifter might be appreciated by the racer crowed among us.

I do not put any stock in the concern about keeping lifters with the lobe they are mated to. I've always done it, and why not? But if you need to replace one put a good used lifter in like has been done 1000 times before and go drive. Maybe this was more of an issue with old-timey stuff that had shallow or inconsistent surface hardening or something.

I've asked this very question to some 944 engine builders but have gotten some indifferent responses.
My idea was to make a sleeve reducing the stock SOHC 38mm hole to 35mm, to use the 944 DOHC lifters which are much, much lighter.

The rebuilt lifters we got from 944online were great and Ian is a good resource. We put them in when we got a new cam from EBS. 1986 951 track car.

It appears that Kolbenschmidt now offers 944n/a 8v lifters. (92810531108)
Has anyone had any experience with them?
Along with the rebuilds from 944online and Lindsey's solid lifters, are there any other option that I'm not aware of?
