My longest trip was about a 100 each way. but regularly drive to flint to see my sister. I carry some oil and coolant. basic set of tools. spare air pump. car never failed me till I was teaching my son to drive a clutch. I told him to quit ***** footing around and get into it a bit cause when we would turn a corner he was going to slow.. so he did, but neglected to let the clutch out intime and viola.. no more clutch... 1 mile from home.. LOL. 60 bucks and a tow and we made it back..

Well, I bought my 87 951 with 10k miles original on it back in April of 2000. The first seven days I had it I drove from Newport, RI to Annapolis, MD, then on to Virginia Beach, VA, Raleigh, NC, back to Annapolis, and finally returned to Newport. Over 1000 miles in the first week. I have added another 29000 since then with only minor problems. Here's to the road trips that make Porches even more fun.

I've done lots of long trips from San Diego: San Luis Obispo, Phoenix, San Francisco, Lots of Hell-Ay. My '87 has 202K miles with the original motor. T
The tools:
mini-compressor for air,
1 qt oil,
windshield wash bottle and squeegie,
1 set box/open end wrenches,
1 full set metric sockets (1/2 & 3/8" drive),
2 flat head and 2 phillips screwdrivers,
1/2" drive torque wrench and 1/2 to 3/8 adapter (torque specs very important to me),
1 set hexhead wrenches (fits 3/8" drive socket)
A small piece of 1.5" dia. pvc and 2 hose clamps (radiator hose repair kit),
spare fuses, spare lamps, spare lug nuts,
mechanix gloves
A rolling auto shop, I know. But years of travelling the back roads of Baja in my truck makes me really caucious. No breakdowns are too problematic. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

I flew to Portland OR with my son two years ago to buy our 951. We spent the night with a friend and got up the next morning to see the car in the light for the first time. Two thumbs up! We then proceeded south to Mt. Shasta and then turned east to Reno and across Nevada on U.S. 50 (the lonliest
road in America). We spent 4 HOURS between 90 and 130 mph. We continued across Utah and Colorado and Kansas all the way home to St. Louis - 3300 miles! No tools, but I did have my H&k 40 cal.
