Post Anyone bought a PS Rack lately?

Who has the best deal on power steering racks? While replacing inner tie rods I discovered right side of rack leaking fluid. I need a remanufactured exchange rack so I called Griffiths who quoted me $468 plus core plus shipping. ~$830 out of pocket.

Anybody offer a comparable quality rack for less?

TIA

Its $200 and you get a resealed rack with new banjo's for the high pressure lines and copper washers. I dont paint them or sand blast them. I just replace the seals, test the rack, wipe it off with a rag and put it back on the shelf to be sent out to the next person.

There's nothing 'special' about a 944 (or any porsche) steering rack. I got mine at Auto Zone for $269 exchange and it came in looking like new!! Has worked flawlessly for 5K miles

$485 seems a bit steep...was that the short rack only - sans tie rod and tie rod ends...(tie rod assembly)?

Rennbay sounds very fair & ‘in stock’ too...any kind of warrantee? Wish you guys had this a couple of months ago.

Griffith's quote was $468 for short rack only, no boots, tie rods etc. with a 24 month warranty. Meridianautoparts.com offers the same guarantee for $290. Zim's has one for $275.95 (12 mo. warranty). I'll check with AutoZone.

Thanks.

I use high quality seals, which I am sure most other re builders use, and if "installed" correctly they will last for a long time. Installing the rack correctly includes...

Flushing the lines/system & cleaning/changing the reservoir.

If it makes everyone feel better I will be more than happy to offer a 1 year warrantee on the seals themselves not being defective. Seals fail due to fluid contamination. Clean fluid means that your rack will last for a long time. Your racks life is in your hands.

They do not go into any cleaning instructions for the reservoir or even suggest that you replace it. Also you do not have to pull the sway bar to get to the rack. You do not even have to pull the arms off of the spindles. You can unscrew them at the joint by the rack and the arm and let them hang from the spindles.

Besides that its a great write-up.
I do love that site. They have all kinds of great guides the almost anything your 944 could ever trouble you with.
