Post 924S engine hesitation

I have an 87' 924s. When I start off in first at a quater throttle, the engine hesitates for a moment and then comes back to life. I have changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. These things all helped but did not completely correct the hesitation at low throttle rpm's. Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Welcome to Rennlist! Great to have another 87 924S driver in here!

Have you replaced the air filter lately? Any disruption in airflow could cause this. Also, check your throttle cable where it attached to the cam on the throttle body. If there's some slack, it might be giving you problems. How about the fuel filter? It probably needs replacing anyway if it's never been done. One more thing, check for cracked vacuum lines everywhere under the hood... something I need to do at some point. That's about all I can think of... good luck!

Since changing my throttle body cam to the Welmeister Throttle Response Cam, I've noticed a slight surging at part throttle while accelerating. I haven't figured out yet if this is related.

Just remembered: throttle position sensor... it may be dying. Something to think about!

Take the car to your local dealer and have them diagnose it. Then, buy the part yourself and fix it at home for free!

When checking under the hood, I didnt find any cracked lines, but I did see my oil dipstick had popped out. This happenned yesterday as well. Whenever I drive it it pops out and gets oil all over the fuel lines. Any ideas

I am going to change the filter, but currently trying to get the old one off. The car sat for approximately 2 years. The connections on the filter are all rusted.

Good luck on the fuel filter. I had my wrench do it for me while it was in for a flex damper replacement- it too him 3 hours to remove after soaking it in wd40 for about 3 days. It's in a bad spot. also check the rubber fuel lines above the trans for wearing/cracking while your under there.
I have a slight hesitation @1500 rpm when I rev up to 4000 rpm +, and again on the way back down. I havent looked into it as it hasnt hindered performance any. I suspect the tps as well.

Mine does something similar, but its more like a kick off, then back on a quarter second later when I am on the throttle. Actually makes the tires chirp when it kicks back in. Is that what yours is doing?

The fact that your dipstick pops out after driving is a big concern. In order to build up that kind of crankcase pressure, you probably have cracked piston rings or worse! Do a cylinder leakdown test as soon as you can.

BTW- this hesitation situation only happens when I rev out of gear, never during driving, and I have never had the dipstick pop out- That is WAAY too much pressure! I agree a leakdown test is in order.
