Ventiler is what Porsche called the 16 valve engine, all S's and S2's were Ventiler.

Steve, All S and S2's are 16 ventiler "editions", it simply translates into valve as far as I know..
Dealers are funny this way, an enthusiast selling a personal car, would not state something like "1984 944 non-turbo" or "1987 944 tubo 951", I find this funny...
Once a friend, took a 1986N/a car to my local Chevy dealer to trade on a new 1990 truck, after ordering and installing "turbo" emblem fr the rear panel. Needless to say after making the deal, they called him up to renegotiate, after realzing that they gave him an extra $3000 on his trade, when they couldn't find the turbocharger...!

I'm aware that ventiler means valves in German. I thought it was funny that the dealer called it a "ventiler edition", when really the badge just means that it has valves, or in this case, 4 valves per cylinder.

I am sure that the dealer has absolutely no idea what ventiler means, only that it says that in front of the doors.

I can see it now: "I'm looking for a 944S2, only it has to be a limited production ventiler edition."

Steve, good one, you'd probably cause all salesman who had a car on a dealer lot to go check to make sure the one on the lot WAS indeed a "Ventiler Edition"..

Sounds like you could have some fun with this, if you had some free time...

Call up lots and say, "I'll give you the asking price as long as the S2 is not one of those damned ventiler editions"....!

Suprisingly they might return with, "No sir, this one is not that type" and remove the moulding, leaving only that obvious 16 valve engine....!

Cheers

does it say "16 ventiler" on the side moulding and on the air box or just "ventiler". I think it was 16; anyone?

My 87 S has 16 Ventiler on the side as well as the airbox. I believe I read somewhere that the side moulding with 16 Ventiler was an option for the 16 valve cars.

My S does not have the 16 Ventiler on the moulding, only in the engine bay - I was gipped!!!

It was an option??? Really? Pretty chessy option. That should be on all 16-valve Porsches!!

I think I read it was an option in one of the Porsche books. Since my plans have chnaged for my 968 engine transplant, it's going to go in the 89 944 now, I think I'll repaint the trim and put it on the 89 after I do the transplant. The 87 S has become a donor car for my 89NA and the 86NA I recently picked up for my wife for a grand.

(Way too many cars in the driveway! I now have 4 944s.)

The side moulding was optional. If your car had a 2V head, the your side moulding didn't say "Ventiler".

Ventilieren v/t to ventilate.
Ventil n valve. Pl. -e.

Don't know exactly what "ventiler" is supposed to mean....

But I wish my car had it

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the side mouldings on the S were standard fitment with a delete option, rather than the other way round. My '88 S has them.
