Seat recovering

Has anyone had their seats recovered? I'm looking at replacing my heated, 8 way power seats with sport seats of the same type. The ones I'm interested in need recovering, so I'd like an idea of how much/who does it.
I have partial leather in Classic Grey, and I wouldn't mind going to full leather. Can anyone help?

I went to a local upholstery shop and priced some seat recovering. In a word: ouch.
Well, they were wanting something like $2000 for leather (with labor). I think that vinyl / "leatherette" was still around $1600.
Of course, the guy insisted that they would look OEM. But still, I was expecting the price tag to be around $600.
I really just need the seat centers replaced....the outer edges of the seats are fine.
Let us know if you find any good alternatives.

I've heard a new alternative to expensive leather recovering...and that is CLOTH, a special cloth WITH THE "PORSCHE" LOGO SCRIPT right there in the pattern.
Has anyone seen this "P-script cloth" that can be used for seat recovering??? Anyone have this in their car? It sounds like a cool vintage way to jazz up the interior, but I would of course like to see some photos first.
The only place that I have heard that sells this stuff is located in England. Anyone? anyone?

I have done it myself - vinyl at $30 total and wife's labor for sawing... total of 3weekends - a straigh forward job, just a lot of patience and labor.
Mine where Recaro OEM seats with 4-way power buttons. It is a bunch of pieces sawn together for the backrest and the seat itself - then pulled over the factory cushions. I used wire ties to secure "jackets" in place - total cost $30 for two.
Brag, brag!
Thanks

I heard earlier that getting your seats recovered was a ~$400 dollar deal... maybe they were not talking about re-doing the leather. At $400-600 dollars, It'd definitly be on my short list of upgrades, but not at $2000!
A local restore shop here quoted me $180 to dye the front seats. He said it would smooth out the small cracks, soften up the leather a bit, and fix discoloration. Should work for me, as my seats aren't really torn or scratched seriously.

See, I'd like to know if there is anything out there to re-darken the cloth inserts (with the "Porsche" script.) I don't want to replace the inserts by any means... it would be nice to find a subtle, color-matched dye to kind just go over them with.

It's Southbound Motor Trimmers who supply the original fabric over here, but the fabric itself is quite pricey. They quoted me £400 to redo the centre sections of both front seats in Linen pinstripe cloth, but it was only £100 more to have the whole of the seats done in leather.
I'm currently waiting for a company in New Zealand to send me some of the cloth as it's a bit like Hen's Teeth now.

It's the fact that Sasha's recovering job involved 3 weekends of sawing. That's one brutal way of getting old fabric off!

A place the dealer referred me to wanted about 1800 to recover both seats in leather. Vinyl only saved a couple hundred bucks. The passengers seat isnt to bad and I thought it could be restored but they didnt even want to try that. So Im just going to go with the neoprene seat covers i have for now.

on a similar note, has anyone come up with any brilliant ideas for keeping worn patches in seats from getting bigger?
there is a hole worn into my drivers' seat, and though i do not have the money to even consider reupholstering or replacing that seat, i would like to do something to keep this hole from getting bigger.
however, short of duct tape, i haven't thought of anything yet...

I've seen German Leather for sport seats at 1600.00 (Tweeks), then you need someone to install it. Other options would be re-dying the leather, before which you could fill in any torn areas. A friend of mine with a 78' 308GTS is in the process of repairing his seats. He's removing the dye, soaking the seats in leather oil, placing them in a plastic bag to let the oil soak, and then using some filler to fix bad areas then applying the dye. So if the seats your looking at only have small abrasions you can bring them back to life, tears are another thing.

Ben,
A possible fix for the hole in the bolster is to have a piece of fabric in either a matching or contrasting color sewn over the area sort of like a stripe. I saw this fix on a Silver Rose turbo, he had a piece of burg. cloth sewn in a slight diagonal over the bolster and it looked pretty good, almost BMW M-ish.

I had both front seats recovered in a white super soft vinyl that closely mimics leather 2 years ago in Wisconsin at a cost of $800 which included both door panels, console, and lower dash. I changed over from brown to white.
Last year I had 1 panel in the driver's seat replaced (where all Porsche seats wear out) due to a tear, for $80.00
