Haha, if I were still at UCR you'd have to deal with two of us.

There is no verdict - I chose to put it off and keep the car the way it is until I can decide. I think I've only put 1 or 2 thousand miles on it since then.

Right now my life is a rat race. Every time I think I've saved enough money to afford honing and balancing, I suddenly lose that money to rent or something. But as far as deciding to fix it before selling it (if I chose to sell), I would. It's funny, I went back and read my old posts and I noticed my position on this car has changed. The color has grown on me. I've always appreciated it, but I'm starting to really like it. I recently found out it's one of only 12. If I sell it, and regret it, it's not like Guards Red where I can just find another one, lol. But what could I get for a 240k mile 968 these days, like $6k? The next 968 would cost more than that, and I don't actually have any more money, so I'm kinda forced to keep this one.

Do some savings and LS1 swap is the way to go. Your car's value will raise and you will have near supercar performance.

I have only respect for people who do the v8 swap. I also regard the v8 as the ultimate in reliability and performance. With that said, it is something I have no interest in.

Alright, since everyone is suggesting it, I'll humor you for a moment. How much money will an SBC swap cost, including every single detail? I'm talking about the "mild" kind of conversion. I only want about 300whp because I don't want to get expensive clutches, axles, tires, brakes, etc.

Remember that my alternative is a 951 swap which would cost me about $4k with a goal of 300whp, or rebuild my 236hp 968 engine for ~$2k.

951 swap or rebuilt 951 swap vs 968 engine rebuild?

If I were you, I'd rebuild one or another. If you rebuild it yourself you atleast know what you have and that is worth a lot.

I too would vote to rebuild it when you are in a better situation to do so. As long as you add oil when needed it will probably be fine to keep driving it as-is. How bad is the oil consumption?

If I were to drop in a 951 engine, it would have to either be very low miles and have rockstar compression, or rebuild it.

Honestly I forgot how much oil it eats, I haven't driven it in a long time. It was more than normal and not enough to stop driving! It wasn't really that much, maybe a quart per oil change. But a friend drove behind me once and told me they smelled and saw oil smoke from my exhaust.

The topic is 8 months old, and it was originally about whether I should rebuild it to help resale value. I think that point is moot until the car is worth selling again, which right now it probably isn't!
