my other question is are the bumpers actually bumpers anymore after these conversions? are they just as safe or do they expect you to remove the bumpers or to fabricate something to make them work under the new shells?

Yeah, you have to use a 968 bumper. At least I did. It retains it's full crash protection. To bad it looks so crappy.

You can get used 968 tail lights at PARTSHEAVEN for about $110 each. That is what I paid.

how do the light wires match up between a 944 and a 968?

Front?

Rear?

Turn signals (f/r)?

IMHO, the 968 tail looks like the stylists went back and finished what they started with the 944. The void between the tailights has always begged for something to fill it. The Euro license plates must have been what they intended, but the US plates have always been small and ill fitting. The loveit/hateit lighted panel looks like it was intended to fill the empty space, but isn't nearly as clean as the smooth 968, with tailights that look like they belong there. 'Nuther words,,I like the conversion. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

944j, you can get a little adapter for the 968 light harness. Just ask the PARTSHEAVEN guys, that is where I got that as well. Mark Parker I agree with you 100%, that is why I did what I did to my car. Now it is how it should have been. The rounded S2 front end and the rounded 968 rear end lend the car a timeless look. I cannot tell you how many times people ask me if I'm driving a new car. I'm serious. All the time. Even a guy with a new S2000 asked me if my car was a 2000 or up. It's weird but I think now the styling will hold up for many more years to come and beyond. And believe me when I tell you that pop up headlights will make a comeback again. They always do.

corevett has pop ups headlights...

the other difference between alberts kit is that it has a horizontal line where it normally says

P O R S C H E

on the back, but this line matches with the line in the rear light lens...

maybe the line looks MORE modern because the name was a 80's 90's design.

?

I like the whole albert kit for its looks and ease of installation.

I'd like to see a 928GTS front and rear on a 944, and then those fender flares too.. Aww, what the heck, throw in that sweet V8. But keep it in the 944's ballpark of 2900-3000 lbs. Maybe a 8/10ths scale 928. Hmmmmm...
