Post 2.8 Audi engine swap

Has anyone investigated swapping a 944 NA with a Audi 2.8 V6, 172 hp engine.
Thanks in advance, Terry

I think that would be a lot of work to just get 20 horses.

If you're going to swap, do it right and beef it up.

Yeah, that would be a huuuge ammount of work for absolutely no (or very very little) gain.

Even if you had a perfect Audi one ready to go, it would be cheaper to put a real 944 motor in there.

Uhhh... don't mean to point out the obvious, but, would it fit? Does stuff fit right? Sounds complicated..

The 2.8 isn't that good of an engine. I have one in my A6, and I don't think it will be particularly well suited to a 944. Its too smooth and refined- it needs to be louder and sound meaner for a car like a 944. Also there is a dearth of engine mods available for the 2.8. Plus the fact that the hp gain will be minimal. The 47lb-ft of tourque might be useful though. A 968 engine is the way to go.

I think such an engine swap wouldn't be worth it. If you spend a little more, an engine swap with the Toyota Supra twin turbo engine would be worth it. 500rwhp is fairly easy to do and is reliable. 1000rwhp out of those engines isn't unheard of.

Come on guys...you're leaving out the obvious answer. The Toyota is too long, too expensive. The Audi is...well, an Audi, and the value of the car would depreciate probably 99%. The answer is... inexpensive American hoursepower. The Chev V-8!!!!!

what about a 1.8t out of an audi TT.. 225hp and easily upgradeable, and i'm sure it would fit just fine... i dunno if the fact that its hooked up to an AWD drivetrain would be a problem..

There's a Swedish streetlegal Volvo 850 running 11's with one of those engines..

But it wouldn't be a Porsche anymore..

alright, i have a 97 audi a4 2.8Q. the 2.8L isn't that great... unless u get a 30valve the 12valve is not fast, and there are no mods, not to mention those engines are EXPENSIVE. if you want to transplant an audi engine that will scream you should look into the 2.7L biturbo out of the S4. those will cost you a little more, but they're so much more powerful. 250hp stock, with some work, they can get double that. or you could just add a chip and get it up to 300+ just by adding a chip and a bigger intercooler. there isn't much to it, and those things scream in the heavy 3600LB(around that) S4... imagine that sucker in a 944. the S4 stock does 0-60 in 5.5 the 944 should do it faster. but i think the real way to go is the 928 engine.... that should really be fast w/out adding too much weight, and keeping it porsche. just my thoughts

I again tell you that if you want to put and 928 v8 in the 944, you have to make the engine compartment about 25 cm wider to even get the think down in it.
