I had a friend with an S model. Same thing happened, ran great and then wham 0 psi on 2. His was a broken valve spring and he was able to replace the spring without pulling the head. I think it would be worth looking at. It was not a huge job.

My friend made a finger tool and filled the cylinder with compressed air. After that he was able to compress the spring, pull the retainers and put a new spring on.

It surely can't cost more than $50 or so to hire a boroscope and know for sure

If it'd been run some with a broken valvespring the seat might be a little grungy but might seal again with a good spring and a little runtime. A chunk of carbon on the seat is all it takes.
Sure, if a borescope can be utilized that'd be great but I'd still peek under the cam cover first as that is free, quick and easy. I found a broken valvespring I would not totally freak out over the 0 psi unless I saw that the valve was hung up.

I am telling you guys from experience that what you said is not always the case and this is on a 944S. So take that as you may.
I agree totally with Joel on this one.
It can definetely trash the valve, however it can also cause little to no damage.

I am very sorry. How about this, if a spring broke it can cause a 0 psi compression (at least on S which should be very similar to an S2). It is also possible to replace that one particular bad spring and the car can be fine after the replacement. As others have said, it is also likely other damage can happen, however that is not always the case. I am extremely sorry that I did not type in "English".

Thanks for the help guys. I may try to look at it just to give the next buyer more info. I don't want to sell it not knowing the problem, because that does make the price go down.
From looking at pics of an s2 head, I would have to pull the cam to change the spring, which would lead to a retension of the timing belt, adding $400 since I dont have the tool. I am quite capable of doing the job, but I dont want to buy the $600 tensioning tool.

Shawn is a good friend of mine whom I've been trying to convince that owning a Porsche can be very enjoyable. I have driven the S2 and the car is in good shape. It's very unfortunate that this has happened. Shaw has a lot on his plate right now and that's why he is selling. I plan on helping him access the damage if we can get our schedules to match.
If someone is looking for a cheap S2 this could be a bargain. Shoot if I had a place to keep and work on the car I'd buy it.
Thanks for helping Shawn out.
