Uneven tire wear on 944
New to 944s; my car is eating my tires after only 3000 miles of ownership, unevenly. Driver's side front and back are worn inside, almost completely; rest of tire looks good. Mechanic tells me this is really bad news; that 944 rear wheels can't be independently aligned from the front, and that there's no play in the alignment of the rear wheels, and that I might have bought a lemon.
Sure doesn't feel like one.
Any thoughts? Re-alignment and a quick fix, new tires?

wtfff....your mechanic either doesn't know wtf he's talking about or he's straight lying to you.
front wheels are camber adjustable, toe adjustable
rear wheels are camber adjustable, toe adjustable, height adjustable
you just need to get an alignment.

+1 with the alignment. That mechanic don't know what he's doing. If for some reason the alignment won't fix the uneven wearing, your car's been in an accident and the body is jacked up. If this is case, bad news, definitely get that alignment though it should fix you right up.
