Default 944 Automatic Transmission Fittings

My father and I rebuilt a manual 1986 944 2 years ago and I am picking up an automatic 1986 944 tomorrow.

Everything works on it...except the transmission. I am bringing it to a tranny shop to get it diagnosed but probably just buying a new tranny. Will a 1989 944 automatic transaxle fit in the 1986 944?

Great!

I am just checking to make sure my knowlkedge is correct, 944's can use parts from 1985.5 to 1989 models right? From what I know so far, almost everything is interchangeable in these years
