Question sunroof does NOTHING

so, my wife wants a functioning sunroof. the only problem is, our sunroof doesn't work. when you hit the switch, nothing happens. no noise, no movement, no nothing. so, i'm wondering if that suggests that the relay is bad? any other ideas on might cause a complete lack of anything happening on the sunroof?
thanks . . . .

Sunroof does nothing. I had that problem before; it ended up being the fuse had blown. I had my 944 for about a year and already went through two sunroof fuses.

well, the previous owner told me when i bought it, "the sunroof doesn't work, and i know it's not the fuse, 'cause i checked it." So, i hadn't looked at the fuse yet. I looked today, and there was no fuse in the #1 socket . . .and there weren't any 25a spares, so i bought one, and when i tried to put it in (ignition was off, keys in my pocket) there was a LOT of arcing, so i immediately removed the fuse. the left blade was partially melted. hmmmmmm.
what might cause all this?! i'm a little freaked . . .
the fuse still tests as good, but still . . .weird, eh?

hey fellas, check the wires that lead from the sunroof motor in the rear left behind the carpeting that lead up towards the roof. they were freyed on the 85.5 that i have causing intermittent/no sunroof operation and could have caused a fire! i found out the hard way, and had to repair the wires. now, the sunroof works good! so check that out. oh i also had to put some insulation on the sheet metal that sticks up there and rubs the wires.

hope this helps you guys.

Another reason I don't want a later year of 944...like my manual roof. Hope you get it fixed.

I have also been having problems with the sunroof in my 951. After taking advice from the PO, I replaced the $100 relay; I still don't have a fuctioning sunroof and I am out $100.

Anyway FSTPRSH, how do you like the Katana? I am thinking about a 600 Gixxer this summer. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I had a similar problem- I bought mine (Turbo S) from an idiot, and the SR didn't work at ALL- hit the switch, NOTHING. The guy aho fixed it said it was one of the microswitches- he screwed around up under the front (right around the inside light) and got it working again- it's pretty silly to have an electric SR that is SOOOO complicated, when all the motor does is lift the rear of the lid up ~3" I would rather save a few pounds and have a manual myself- might actually convert if this one ever breaks in an expensive way- anyway, it was one of the micro switches, and it only took about 5 minutes....

Mine quit working, and after I pulled, tested ok and replaced both relays by the motor and it worked again.

The rear relays are 87/87a relays, about $8. They are the same relay as the heater blower, switch relays and see if the blower still works.

Also turn the ignition to the 1st position and try the button to lower, see if there is any noise.

It's a good all around bike...IMO, over weight, and under powered. Is capable of wheelies, but even more capable of endos (stoppies) when the right method is applied (found out tonight that Metzler Sportec M-1 tires do very good ones). Very comfy when compared to a CBR, gixr's are comfortable after the seat is broken in. Just be careful, had to drive a GSXR 750 to my friends house a few weeks ago, it was all but destroyed, and he almost was...just took a turn too quick.

Those 2 relays are right by the motor but to the inside a bit, they are right next to each other.

9sixty8, Could be your gears are stripped or the cable broke.

Open the hatch, on your left behind the wheel pull the carpet back and remove a black plastic cover, there you will find the motor assembly the relays are next to each other on the side away from the fender.

Those are about $8 (not from Porsche) the sunroof relay in the fuse panel is about $110, I would figure out how to test that one.
