Post Guess what I found....

While I was at the salvage yard on of the first cars I saw was this <img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Myfirstcar.JPG" alt=" - " />

My heart dropped when I saw it. This was my first 944 I bought many, many years ago. I thought it was still mine cause I had it stored at my parents house. It turns out they sold my 2 944's I had stored at there house cause they wanted the space. When I looked inside my old golf shoes were still in the back and a bunch of receipts with my name on them.

The doors were locked and the yard owner says he wasn't given a key. I still have the title and some spare keys. The guy offered to buy them but never said for how much. He also said I can have the car back for what he paid $500.

The title is clean and the car still runs.It justs needs body work and an oil pan gasket cause it leaks like crazy. He doesn't know that though, he thinks the head is blown.

Should I get the car back or sell him the title.

I agree with Luke...if it means that much to you, you should grab it. Just be realistic of how much work it's going to take to get her back in shape. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

As far as getting parts go, they are all over the place at this guys junkyard. His prices are great cause he has no idea what the market value of the parts are. He doesn't look at ebay or even the porsche classifeds.

Definitely get it back and put your blood sweat tears and money into making her the best looking Porsche on the stret.

Aunt and Uncle sold my cousins 73 Dart sport when he was away at colege.

He still hasn't forgiven them. Specially when he saw someone else driving it a few months later.

I guess not. I'm kinda old and don't have a whole lotta time on my hands. I do talk to them, hell I live 8 mins. away, but things like my stuff aren't that high on thier list of priorities. They live in a very well-to-do neighborhood and the people that live there are pretty snobbish. All you see in that nieghborhood are benz's, bimmers, and a whole lot of SUV's. So my cars were pretty much a blight on the community, I guess.

Definately buy it back
If it runs, for $500 you can have a sweet beater.
Screw fixing it up, cut off the whole top, strip out the interior, and just wear goggles, that would be an awesome summer car.

Check with your states motor vehicle department. If the title is still in your name just take the car. If the fellow protests tell him to get the $500 back from your parents.

OUCH! Buy her back!

OMG, she looks almost identical to my first Porsche (see below) even down to the black cookie cutters!

Why didn't your parents tell you, and give you the option of removing her, first? That is an odd thing for parents to do.

I wish I could buy mine back; I'm thinking of getting my vin # from my storage facility, and running a carfax, to see if she is still running, and then try and track the owner down, and see if she's worth making an offer on...still want my baby back!

Good luck!

What the hell is going on down there. When I junk a car, the first thing they ask for is the title - that's why we have them. If you have the title, it is your car, period. Obviously, it is illegal for anyone to pick up a car without a title. Give him a chance to do the right thing, then report it stolen. By the way, junkyard guys don't pay $500 dollars for cars - that's a good one. Your parents probably payed him $50 for towing.
