Motons Not So Bolt In

Motons Not So Bolt In
Tried to install my new Motons today and ran into a few problems.
1. The front struts as delivered will not fit. The bottom hose mount for the remote canister hits the sway bar mount. An easy fix for Moton. Either the bolt flanges for the strut need to be rotated 90 degrees around the body or the hose fitting needs to move 90 degrees to the rear. As they now stand they are 180 degrees appart. This is NOT one of those items I want to tackle.
2. The rear shocks will not mount upside down. Sort of defeats the purpose of the adjustability since one would have to remove the shock to make an adjustment or change out a spring. The problem is clearance on the banana arm. The hat needs to be moved up about 1.75 inches. I may be able to fix this one since I have a machine shop full of friends. A 1.75" adapter for the top hat could be machined and TIG welded to the hat.
I'll post back what I hear from Moton.

you cant swap they struts from the left side to the right? Or do both hoses face forward?
Also before you weld can some adapters like on my rears space the shock off to clear the spring?
This is the setup we make on my car..........

Larry,
Thanks for the offer. I'm begining to wonder if Moton thinks the 86 and the 87 and later arms are the same. Mine are 86's and I'll bet the clearance wouldn't be an issue on an 87.
Thanks for the offer for spacers. If I can't get one of the guys in the shop to build a set I'll let you know.

Here are a couple of photos of what I am talking about. In the strut photo the arrows point to the pressure line and the top of the sway bar mount. The wheel is turned to the left. Glad I didn't install them this way because it would have went together. Just wouldn't turn
The rear shock photo shows the spring perch not seated and the spring touching the banana arm. A longer bolt could be used on the bottom to move the shock out. However, you'd be changing the geometry and putting the top shock eye in a bind, I think?
Thoughts?

Yes it would change the geomotry of the rear dampers slightly...............I dont think it should bind due to the fact that the spherical bearing should allow it to be mounted as such.............
The front on the other hand? thats a moton only mod!

Will that banjo bolt hit only when the shock is at full droop?
Did you give moton the specs or did they have them speced out?
Also what rate spring do plan on runing?
On my shocks i spaced the top off the shock over as far as i could to get damper in the strightest line possible, im unsre if that photo
showed them with he top bolted in the center or moved over as far as they could go in the upper shock mounting area?

Larry,
The top mount is spaced over. Moton sent some very nicely machined pieces for that part as well as the lower eye. Another individual noted that he had used Racer's Edge lower bolts to move the lower shock eye out.
Shaun,
At the moment they elctro/hdraulic controlled. Thats the way teh lift works which has the car up in the air. And that is the only way these shocks can move up and down for the moment
However, between Moton, Dave Bearman (mechanic with untold patience) and this list I'll get it sorted out.

No, they are remote reservior dampers. The reservior contains the gas used to keep the oil under pressure to prevent foaming of the oil.

Spoke with Lex at Moton today. The problem is on my side. They sent units for the newer style arm. I have the 86 style with machined hubs and later spindles.
My units are going back along with my observations and suggestions. Moton will get me a new set for the 86 arms.
I'll jsut lose a little time waiting.
I will have to say that Lex at Moton was great to deal with, very interested in solving the issue to my satisfaction
