Default Rear plate illumination

Hi, I'm looking suggestions on how i could illuminate the rear license plate (it was relocated to rear bumper by original owner when he installed the light panel between the tail lights).
I've searched for illuminated license plate frames, but all I've come across are ricey looking ones. I don't want to move the plates back between the lights because then I would have to deal with the holes that were drilled to install the panel (3 I think).
Thanks

All of the plates I have seen relocated to the bumper used a frame that had two lights installed in them to illuminate the plate. I JUST sold a center light/frame combo that included one of these. The center lights require 4 holes to be drilled. My old 951 had one installed which I removed within minutes of getting the car home and I just used some simple rubber plugs I found at the parts store to cover the holes. Most people thought they were there to protect the paint from a euro plate , but it worked well.

Luckily the frame and center light were from a parts car. I suddenly can't remember if the frame on my old 951 said Porsche on it or not, it came off so fast that I don't remember lol. But I guess your right 4 times for the parts car, and at least 3 for my 951!

Yes, they look that bad. Putting the plate on the rear bumper makes it look even worse.

Yeah, I don't quite get the aversion to those light bars or reflector lenses. To my way of thinking, the OEM look is really broken up, and doesn't flow well. IMO, with the lens there, it really streamlines the rear section of the car.

Having said that, not all light bars/reflectors are created equal. I've seen probably 7 or 8 variations in terms of lens color and lettering styles. Some of the red lenses match the OEM lenses perfectly, and others are way too orange. I have one on my "941" that matches the OEM lens color very well. It's also not a light up version, it has "turbo" in script (instead of PORSCHE) and it's the smaller version of the turbo script (I've seen some that have the "turbo" script in HUGE lettering that is not quite an accurate interpretation of the proper script font).

So, I like the one on my car, particularly because the "941" is debadged (no "924 turbo" above the RHS tail light, and no "PORSCHE" on the section just above the rear bumper). The only badging on my car is the crest on the nose panel, the turbo reflector lens, and (any day now) new turbo script door sills.

Putting a US plate in the OEM location looks stupid too (IMO) because it doesn't align to the tops or bottoms of the lenses, and is tilted at a weird angle. This is why I hate the OEM location for the US license plate, and prefer it on the bumper.

To each his own, I guess

I have the light bar... the rear of these cars looks pretty bad without them IMO, like something is missing.

Ive never had lights for the license plate either... don't plan to. No police have ever said anything and I've been pulled over plenty...

I had to get a light on the plate for inspection, went to AutoZone and they had a frame (just across the top of plate) with dual LED lights for $17. A little "bluish" but otherwise a decent solution. I'd spray the lenses to reduce the amount of light directed rearwards, tho.

My car came with the "Porsche" light already installed by the PO. I do not have the Porsche lettering just above the bumper so the light is the only thing that says "Porsche" back there. IMHO I think it looks better than the North American plate. The 911SC's and later Carrera's had a "Porsche" light/reflector back there as well, so it lends a family resembelence.
Now if you have a Euro plate between the lights, thats a different story. Just my 2 cents. To each their own.

I have the same light bar that's in Colin's post....with the lighted frame.

I like mine and have no plans to remove it....I agree...it flows better than stock in my opinion.
