Am I being stupid???
I posted this on the 944 turbo forum, but I thought I'd ask opinions here, too...
I am selling my 1987 951, Black/black, bone stock except for the 17" 993 cups, 62k real miles. Pretty darn nice car. Nose cap has been painted, as has the right rear quarter. Don't really know why the quarter was done, but the front has no evidence if damage so I'm thinking stone chips. Bad thing is, the prior owner (60 yrs old, bought the car with 30k in 1991) didn't keep his maintenance records. He said it never occurred to him to keep them, he didn't think he'd ever sell the car. Anyway, I have been asking $11,900 and a local dealer just offered me $10,000. Do you think I should cut the car loose for that? Can I get more out of it? I'm only selling because I have it, a 1989 C4 and a 325i convertible and I really don't need them all! What are these cars bringing in the real world? I gave $12,000 for this not long ago and thought I was stealing it. I think a big part of my problem is I know this dealer is going to mark it $14,900 or something and some chump (like me) will probably buy it! Any advice would be appreciated!

$10,000 is $250 less than I paid for my 86 951 with similar mileage. But that was 5 years ago. I think the offer is fair.
Might want to ask yourself why should you care what the dealer sells it for if you get what you feel is a fair price? Of course the dealers going to make a profit. He wouldn't be in business if he didn't.

He might be offering 10K, but he is only allowing wholesale value into the car, the difference is in the sale amount of the car being traded against. I've never seen a dealer allow, in reality, more than wholesale, it just wouldn't be profitable for them. They just hide the difference in the sale price of the new car.

I would sell the beemer, but I need to have at least one car that my 4-year old can ride in.
And I'm not trading the car for anything, the dealer just saw my ad and wants to buy the car for cash. I don't know, he is the only Porsche dealer in town and he has gotten plenty of my money over the past few years, so I think I'll turn him down. I'll focus on selling the C4. There is a lot of history behind me and this dealer and I'd rather not do him any favors. I'm just hard-headed like that! Thanks for your advice!
