If the arms move, then the roof should move also.

If the gears were stripped, the arms wouldn't move.

Is the "track" where the arms go inside the roof itself ok?

The arms move, but the sunroof doesn't? That's confusing.

When my gears stripped out the arms would stop and start depending on when the arms would come into contact with a good part of the gear. But it didn't have enough teeth left to lift up the roof. Is that what you mean?

Do you hear any binding or crunching sounds or anything like that?

Before you open the roof to check the gears, pull back the carpet and check behind the plastic casing. That's the sunroof motor. In my case, the metal sleeve that guides the coil that opens and closes the roof had seperated, causing the coil to pop out, instead of pushing the roof open.

If all looks OK near the motor, then your gears are probably toast.

Ok so i went to the Porsche dealership to buy some gears.. I took everything off to find that the gears were alright. so i took it to my mechanics...it was the arm..something about it not having enought pressure or something...so he rigged it so it works and told me dont worry about it..he just fixed it for free... So now its all fixed.

Thanks a lot guys for your help

Ahhhhhhh,

Your slip clutch (on the motor) was loose. He just re-set the torque on the slip clutch. I didn't think of that......
