Angry OF MICE AND CARS!!!

On the way out yesterday I poped into my 944 to get the cord for my cell phone....and I see that a mouse ( I am assuming....although I guess it could have been a chipmunk too!) has chewed a hole through the leather shift boot! I only drive the car once or twice a week...anyone know what I can do to keep the criters out of the car?

( right now the MDX and tools/toys are taking all the space in the garage!)

thanks!

PS - how hard is it to change out the boot?

I have one of those little machines that makes high pitched sound to annoy mice. I also leave two or three mousetraps in my garage at all times. I catch about 1 per week!

Mice also like to chew on wiring.

Unhappy

Thanks guys...especially Triscadek for those words of inspiration...now I'll have nightmares of my Harness feeding a poor starving family of mice all through the winter...

Are they on my mechanic's payroll?

PS - stray...there are plenty of neighborhood cats that I see on my property...but it buts up to woods..so I am pretty much screwed!

Relatively simple solution to the problem. I have used this for years. Works on mice, squirrels and other rodents.

Leave a radio on 24/7. Especially if you can find a station with a lot of talking. They do not like that....Does not have to be loud...

Cheers!!

J.. it'd be a good idea to get the cute litle critter out of there.. dunno for sure about mice, but rodents in general do like to chew on wiring, as mentioned. Dad used to have an International Harvester Scout that stayed parked in the side yard, near the woods that went on up the mountain behind the house; groundhogs got under the hood one year & _destroyed_ the wiring. Fortunately, it was a pretty simple system, and easy to rewire.

If you don't mind checking the car daily, at least until cooler weather (for obvious reasons), try putting a couple of the simple Victor spring-type mouse traps in the floor boards, with peanut butter for bait. It's harder for them to rob than cheese, and works at least as well.

The only 'old wives' tales' that I've heard for repelling mice that make any sense are A) cat hair, if you got a long haired cat you can comb some off off, and B) moth ***** (dunno how they work; supposdedly they do). No promises on either one working.

also, keep the grass around the car, if any, mowed short. Makes 'em better targets for owls & hawks.

And there's always D-Con...

Jim, or an air strike with napalm... or cluster bombs...

Moth ***** also work to keep them out-although it is difficult to get them off the moths.

My father had this problem with one of his Corvettes years ago. In cold whether, the mice like to snuggle up to the car because of the warm engine. After having the car smell like mice **** for awhile, he simply left the windows open in the garage making the interior cold - seemed to do the trick.

See here on how to deal with mice problems: Building the better mouse trap.

I find the terror trick that the CIA teaches foreign guerrillas who do their dirty work to be quite effective at detering mice as well. Once you've killed one of them (even better when they're still alive and wiggling), impale the body on a stick (toothpick for rodents) and place in a prominent location for all the others to see! For even more effectiveness, strip them down and peel off half their skin!
