Hate to do it but I have to sell my 951, need advice
I just got a new job that will require me to do a lot of driving. My old company provided me with a company car and since I got laid off I've been driving my '87 951 but the miles are going to be just too much to put on her. I hate to but I'm going to have to sell her so I can buy something I can put a ton of miles on. Anyway, I need some advice on what I should ask for the car. Here's the vitals:
2-owner
black on black
141K miles
all original except wheels
Interior = 9.5 out of 10 (clock is the only thing not working)
Exterior = 8.5 out of 10 (no dents, original paint has some swirls)
Engine = strong, have service records back to original purchase date.
Car has spent it's whole life here in Dallas area. Seats are pristine, I have Iggee seat coverson them to keep them that way and P/O had sheepskins on them. Never wrecked, no body damage, all maintennance done at correct intervals. From looking at other sales and Excellence pricing that recently came out, I was thinking around $8k, does that sound right? I'll have more pics up tonight.

I'm doing about 100-110 miles right now daily going to the office (and have had no issues) but I'll be in the field in a couple of weeks which will require me driving to visit clients all over Texas. I'd hate to run her into the ground when someone else could really enjoy the car and give it proper care. I'd just as soon keep her but I need the money to get something to beat the hell out of.

Hate to hijack someone's thread, but it's topical--I'm kind of in the same boat as bulldog24: I'm changing companies and wrestling with the prospect of having to sell my baby too!
Mine's probably about a 6/10 exterior and 7/10 interior (paint kind of faded, a little dent in the rear quarter panel, and the interior carpet is pretty bad--BUT the dash isn't cracked :-)). I'm trying to decide if it makes $$$ sense to re-do the carpeting and get a respray. I'm wondering what the general opinion is as to whether or not you can get enough more for a pretty car to make it worth prettying it... Any thoughts?

Well, my territory will cover most of North Texas as well as West Texas. I've not had any problems with the car but driving from Dallas to Midland is a 5 hour trip with not much but oil wells and tumble weeds in between. It just doesn't make sense to rack up those kind of miles on a 23 year old car, not mention that if something were to go wrong I'd be in up a creek without the proverbial paddle.

If I end up selling mine, of course Rennlist will be the first to know
I'm now leaning more toward just paying to get the car shipped out to my new address. Got some quotes and they're pretty reasonable. Might find myself posting here again asking how to make a 951 California-ready....

Good luck with the sale, BTW!

Plus, it hurts to see your precious sportscar get road rash from miles you're putting on for somebody else.
I drive my 951 for myself, thank you!
I will second the cheap Honda option, though!

From: one thousand, five hundred miles north of Ft. Lauderdale for the summer.
no way either of you have to sell these cars you love so much. there has to be a better solution.
go to killeen [ft. hood] and have one of the guys from the 90 car lots in the area make you a deal.
