Default Under hood item - can anybody identify this?

I'm deep in the middle of my racecar weight reduction. currently I'm working thru the wiring harness, stripping out unneeded wiring. I found this under the hood, against the firewall, just above the battery area. Any idea what it is? I looks like a giant resistor to me. Has a couple of beefy hot wires plugging into it.

Those are the resistors for the radiator fans.

Thats really what they are. if you take them out, it wont do low speed fans.

Come on Cris, leave them in there. You definitely need low speed fans!

Thanks Bill, always helpful as usual I don't think I'll missing them. As speed the fans are ineffective, and in the paddock or grid, high speed is fine.

I got to go find my wiring diagram. I didn't even know I had low-speed fans.

Can I just disconnect the leads and junk the resistors?

You can just remove the resistors and leave the circuit open, but it would be better to remove the resistors and connect the wires. This way, the high speed fans come on when the water temp is lower rather than waiting for high speed operation when the water temp is near boiling. There are several versions of thermoswitch temperature ranges that you can buy.

Cris I have a separate switch to turn on the fans(high speed only). I turn them on as necessary such as on the mock grid and on the cool off lap. I leave then on with the engine idling for a few minutes after each session. I have no resisters.
