Well ,some people like gimics... For who wants absolute quality but also some nice options there is Becker.I was looking the other day at a Becker Cascade and i want one very bad,the design goes really well i think with the interior of the 944 and it incorporates some great features like navigation, voice control, bluetooth,Ipod control ,etc.Only downside is the price, over 1000$ . http://www.mybecker.com/enUK/Automotive-Cascade+7944.html

I put a Alpine Ipod only interface in my Audi 4000Q and it sounds amazing. Even charges my iphone. I only paid $250 for it. My only complaint is Alpine wants a fortune for the bluetooth interface module. I recommend getting a head unit with bluetooth built in, esp if you drive alot of miles.
This is the newer version of my head unit. Mine was about $350 retail but they had a instore special at Car Toys. I recommend looking in stores as well, never know what they are trying to clear out and you dont have to wait for it to be shipped.

Jensen makes a car stereo that they call the "Heavy Duty". It comes in both CD and tuner only. In both cases, I think you get weather band. Both are also adaptable to mp3. Besides being extra tough, I think that it looks the most German of any of the new stuff out there.

Thanks for the input guys. I decided to go with a Sony CDXGT640UI (from Best Buy). It had mostly good reviews on-line and the price was right ($149). I really like the looks of that Becker but a grand is far too much for my purposes.

Porsche/Becker CDR 220 matches the interior nicely.

I really like the Becker that catamax posted but at $1,000 I think I'll have to stick with my CDR.

hope it works out for you, there were only a couple of good decks from sony back in the day, especially their "explode" stuff - which did exactly that
