Dan,

Im selling a rear valence thats from Performance products. It should be the exact replica of the original. Its on ebay right now:

Adding a factory 951 rear valence to improve aerodynamics and appearance is not "rice." As someone pointed out, it may have even been a factory option for the NA. If you want one, go for it.

Now, if you put "Turbo" badges all over an NA and try to pass it off as a 951, that would definitely be rice. There was a guy on eBay recently who had done this to his 944.

I like the looks of the 944, and I like the looks of the 951. Not to offend, but when I see an early n/a with T-bo body parts, I don't think "rice", I think "wanna-be". They don't look bad at all, they just indicate force feeding under the hood. (except the S2 of course). As always, feel free to modify your car anyway you want. In the end, what YOU think of it is all that matters. But you asked..

For whatever it's worth, I put the valance on my 944. I didn't do it for the performance or to make it look like a turbo. I simply did it because I liked the way it looks, and it cleans up what I personally view to be an "unfinished" tail. Ditto for the GLI front and rear spoilers I put on my Jetta.

Both cars retain their stock badging so it's not like I'm trying to fool anyone.

Some may argue it's rice, but most likely won't. And over at the Ricecop forums (where I'm a moderator, no less!) you'd probably get shot for calling them "rice"...

Anywho, I say that if you want to put the valance on, then put it on. It's your car, and should you really care what we think anyway...?

No prob. I honestly think that 944's look better with the factory designed aerodynamics of the S2/951 variants. There's no "wanna-be" intended in what I've done to my car.

It would be different if I slapped a "turbo" badge on it and told everyone it was a turbo.

Give me a few more months and it will have the grunt under the hood to elevate me outta some people's "wanna-be" category.....

Ok I admit it I am totally RICED out!

HMM let’s see.

Body:

Looking for a 951 valence
I already have 968 mirrors and door handles
Let’s not forget the Fiberwerks front end lightning up the front end by almost 70 lbs
I even have a set of window air guards in my garage
I am considering building custom side skirts because I don’t like any of the ones I see out on the market now. “Seriously rice”

Suspension:

I am going over to the turbo rear trailing arms and breaks IMHO this will be needed.
I already have the 29 mm Sway in the front and the 20 I believe in the rear
Oh I am replacing all the suspension bushing with a race street type “RICE”.
I am considering custom made coil over Bilstien rear struts to eliminate the rear torsion bars. I am ordering up a set of fronts as well with adjustable ride height both front and rear. “Defiantly RICE”

Currently I have a set of Zimmerman X-drilled rotors on the front with about 200 miles on them I will be selling soon to switch over to the turbo style spindle and breaks with all new Brimbo X-drilled all the way around. Again “Defiantly RICE”.
Ok, I have SS brake lines “Now that has got to be RICE”
I switched over to the 968 style rear trailing arm mounts. Not sure if this is rice but because it was an upgrade from original then according to you is HAS TO BE RICE.

Motor

In the process of being completely rebuilt down to the last nut and bolt
Adding in positions to up the compression a bit from the 88 series car, also switching over to the turbo rods. They will be and polished thanks to a tip from Anderson Moterworks. Now that has to be RICE.
Also going to a different set of rings that are supposed to be an improvement over stock.
All new bearings including balance shafts.
All new springs
All new lifters
All new exhaust and intake valves
An adjustable FPR
SS Fuel line
Borcsh headder
Port and polishing the intake manifold
Opening up the throttle body
Custom air intake
Knifed crank
Aluminum flywheel working along side of a now three piece clutch.
Lets not forget the performance ground cam, still undecided on which one but that has to be RICE!
Blaster two coil
MSD 6AL ignition

Might even go with a cat back system just for the hell of it.

Interior”

This will be treated to new caret and newly recovered dash and center console. Maybe even aluminum peddles just so the RICERS really don’t feel left out.
This all will be complemented with Sparco adjustable seats and five point harnesses with a kicking stereo sporting a video screen just because I can.
Oh lets not forget my sport steering wheel white face gauges. “Already installed” I even have the 2 pod A pillar going in during this restoration and upgrade.”SERIOUSLY RICE”

All this to boot I am hauling around a turbo transmission just for looks and a new paint job for a little added HP LMAO.

Should be done mid to late summer so I am washing out this summer just so I am not disappointed if it is all not completed soon enough to drive my newly created monster RICE CAR this summer.

It is my opinion that all of these addon’s are functional save for the obvious argument of the sides skirts, “ON a track environment they will be useful but on the street they are defiantly for looks” other than that I think it will be an over experience of the senses to drive this car when complete.

Yep that about does it, Guess that makes me a RICER. Hmmmm wonder if I should consider moving to Japan. Think I would fit in there? For those of you who are purists, I commend you. But don’t harp on me for deciding to turn an already awesome car into something that I plan on keeping around for a VERY long time, or better into something that will chew up and spit out a stock N/A any day of the week, “Oh Hell” I might even hang in there with the stock turbo’s on the twisties.

Thanks for listening
Later Boss or is that dude “Whatever
TaboII putten together on Bad *** ride! PEACE!

Why worry about going fast, you only have to look fast. It's ok, you're still cool with all the ricers like myself. Well, as long as you have that turbo valance.

I bought this car for 500 bucks and it came with the rear valence.

Its an '88 and I know that the previous owners did not put on any mods, let alone ricer items. It must be the factory option that someone mentioned...
I can see where people get turned off by tastless modifications, but personally, I think the entire "ricer" discussion in this thread is ridiculous. Don't you guys have anything better to do?
