Turbo Rear Valance on NA - Price? Opinion?
#46
The rear turbo valence, and the "euro" valence (slotted one) were both Porsche Dealer fit options in 1986 for the 944NA cars - I have a factory brochure that lists it. Don't have it handy right now, but it was expensive - close to $1000 I recall for the turbo valence.
I found one on eBay in the exact color to match my son's 86NA - it finished off the rear perfectly IMHO. Paid $250 for it I recall. Only took an hour to install too!

Did it run at that price? Also that exhaust does not look stock, sure this was not a modification?
Cheers,

How does the installation go?

very easy. 2 pcs mount under the body and to the bumper with 5 SS bolts that engage "cage nuts". These were purchased from Porsche dealer (expensive!) and slide into pre-punched slots in the chassis. You do have to drill two 1/4" holes each side of the car however to fit the side pieces.
EXCELLENCE magazine had an article on the installation procedures a year or 2 ago.
Pretty straightforward, easy 1 man job.

for $500, the car ran great! I had it up to 100mph on the highway for a test drive. The car did have some mechanical issues in the past and was owned and maintained by one of the mechanics at Champion Motorsports, according to the PO. It doesn't seem like anything was done to it, mod-wise, other than to keep it running at a low cost. The transmission broke (?) and a shop sold(installed) the naiive PO a turbo unit that he probably had laying around. Worked great, but we all know (as did the PO, afterwards) that the gearing was off. The exhaust may have been some cheap replacement to get it repaired for less dough, vs more HP, sounds, or looks. I think this was also from a turbo.
I'm having the car totally redone, including SFR exhaust, engine rebuild (turns out the bearing were shot), NA tranny, etc, etc, etc.
I'm spending a ton of cash, and would be a prime candidate for rice, except that I am doing (almost) everything as a prep for PCA club racing, and eventually (hopefully within 2 years) I will make it a track-only car. That will hinge on my ability to afford a trailer and tow vehicle.
How's that for a long answer to a short question?

Jack-
I had not noticed the door damage, but still looks like a tremendous buy! Checked out the site, good luck with the race car build; looks like you have some sweet components going into the car. Think you'll attend and AX this year? If so, look me up.
Also love what you've done to your C4, looks awesome!
Cheers

Oh Man, all I asked was opinion of the 951 valence....apparently a LOT of guys are hyper sensitive about being thought of in the same vein as Japanese import owners. Okay, I think at 50 some responses and 4 pages we've pretty much beat the crap out of this discussion.
Geez, just imagine if I'd hit a truly sensitive spot like how to pronounce Porsh/Porsh-uh or something!

i'm gonna have to stick up for the 18" rims here, i realize they **** off a lot of purists but they look original and they totally make the look of my car in my opinion.

Dan if you like it go for it, funny how this thred got all blown out over a factory option.
Even more funny, I like the "unfinished" look of the N/A rear. If/when I ever get around to getting a 944S2/951 I may take the valance off.
Hey I could get $250 for it on ebay!
Ha ha...
Just my $.02
Nice car Ian, cool color/wheels wtf I don't care what anyone says.

dude im all done i just need rich to do the timing but hes a slow SOB. i painted the cam housing, its black behind the PORSCHE and the letters are polished aluminum. it looks pretty good i think. also, my bumper is losing the pads and getting compressed. it's about ready to get painted. you should come down sunday and take a look at it and we can make sure ive got my vacuum lines hooked up right. i'll get some chinese food even.
scottmandue, thanks man.
for the record, i like the turbo rear valance, i want one too. i think they definitely make the rear look more complete.
