Default Thermostat Delete/Removal

I tried searching on this but couldnt find anything. Im rebuilding my race car right now and want to delete things that could potentially break down the road. Wondering if I can just delete the thermostat in the waterpump since this isnt a street car. Also any reason I would need to keep the thermostat that goes to the turbo? Any have thoughts on this? Im wondering why I shouldnt? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks
Brian

i'd keep it. w/o a thermostat, the coolant will take some temperature swings as you're driving at diff speeds.

The thermostat isn't going to break on you lol, just get a quality new one while you've got the WP off and call it a day. Heat = power anyways, you don't want your motor on the cool end of things, you want it running hot! Just not so hot you kill it.

Been running my 951 with no thermostat for over a year. No problems pertaining to that.

But the truth is, it really never warms up. It stays dead *** cold no matter how hard I drive the car or how long I let it sit and idle. One of these days I'll probably put one back in so the car will at least run at 'normal operating temp.'

Engines are designed to run at their operating temperature. You are causing more wear by not running them at that temp which is not good and can cause problems down the road. I wouldn't do it...street car or not.

There are 2 "circuits", or paths, that water can take through the water pump. The opening/closing of the t-stat opens one of those paths and closes the other. By removing the thermostat, you leave both open, which will reduce the amount of flow going through the engine, which will reduce cooling ability.

Personally, I wouldn't run without it.

You can run without it fine in a pinch. However the cars run better with the t-stat in place. They run both cooler and warmer. (ie more in the operating range).

944 spec allows drivers to run without the t-stat, but I recommend to all to run it. The reason we allow you to remove is that should it fail you can rip it out and keep running. However it is actually better to just keep a spare and replace at the track.

It will throw the fuel injection off. If it doesn't get up to temp, the car will run rich as if cold start. Same thing goes with the cool thermostats out there. Always use the factory temp thermostat or else the car runs rich. Not a good idea on a track car.

You need to run one...........anyone not needs to read up on thermodynamics, HP, and wear characteristics. If you are afraid of failure just drill a few holes around the thermostat base plate so even if it fails closed it won't block 100% of the flow and you can get it shut down before it overheats.
