Default 924S/944 gbox short ring and pinion for hillclimbs or short tracks

hello guys
I am looking for a shorter/est ring and pinion to put in a 924S gbox. I was told on another forum that possibly the one from an audi 5000 diesel 79 to 81 MY can be used anyone tried this ?

The 924S is the same as the later 944. You can get a 4.11:1 R&P for it in lieu of the 3.89:1. It is an Audi part and very very hard to find. It is an Audi 016 transmission.

The other option, and probably much better in terms of performance, is to go with shorter 3-5th gears. Albins in Australia makes them, but they only fit the 944S2 or 951 transmissions, not the 944NA.

Which car is this in? I thought you had a 951? If you do and you want to shorten the longish final drive in that gearbox, put in one from an S2. Brings it down approx. 15% across the whole set. Livens things up considerably.

In the U.S it's the Audi 5000 S gearbox that has the 4.11 final drive, you can find them here for $3-$400

Audi 5000 here IIRC is Audi 80/100 in Europe.

I think one of these gearboxes would be cool to have, but the highway RPMs would be nuts!

Thanx, but which Audi 5000 ? Which year or better do you have the gearbox type ?

I have found many cars breaking for parts but dont know if the gearbox has the correct ring and pinion.

PS. this is for a racecar, so I dont care about cruising RPM

look here

The 016 4WD box with 4.11's was installed in 1985-1987 4kq's and 1987-1988 5kq's. You may be able to use the 017 rear differential R&P from the same cars as well as the 1988-1992 80/90 quattros. The 5kq has an odd rear diff case, but it's still an 017 I believe.
