You can also dye the lens. Dye costs about 3 bucks . It's called RIT and you get in craft stores. Get water hot up to 140 deg f and keep it there and immerse the piece for half to one hour. It the lens is gone pink and you want it red thats the way to do it. I suppose it'll work fine for other colors too. The lens is polyester so it'll take the dye. Mask what you don't want to color.

Seriously, I hope you get the desired effect you are looking for. But at the same time you are not reducing your ability to be seen. There are far too many people that aren't paying attention to begin with - you don't want to stack the odds in their favor even further.

I'm trying to figoure out a way to make mine brighter.

I would hate to think what would happen if you are rear-ended, and a sharp cop noticed a non-OEM smoked brake light.
Friend of mine was found a fault for being rearended because his spoiler blocked the view to his third brake light.

Note that on the last picture, I ps'd the left reflector because the light was out.

I left off the fog lights, because I like the contrast. Then again, maybe they'd better suit the car if smoked as well. Any thoughts?

Tomorrow I'll be off to get the windows tinted 20%, all around. Blackout S2 should be well complete thereafter.

Turned out just as good as I had expected. Believe it or not, I had this project in mind before I even had even found my S2. IMO, it look great. Not much of a fan of amber reflectors on the black 944's. They stick out like a sore thumb, but maybe that's a good thing.

As far as the visibility issue goes, sure it's inevitably lessened. But I'm convinced that the extra stealthy look causes more people to notice the car. On my first drive down the road after application, I saw an unusual amount of people turning heads at traffic lights. I even caught someone snapping a couple pictures. That's a first for me...

So take it as it is. The lights are still 80% as visible as they were before, and if that's any problem then just throw on some higher intensity bulbs.

 

I was all set to paint mine in the next week or so, but I am going to try the tint first.

I dont think I am going to do the rear though.

Wow, those 997 Turbo wheels are something else! I've never heard of anyone fitting them onto a 944 before.

 

I'm currently offering smoked side marker assemblies for the 928, and could provide the same for the 944/951, if there is demand.

The first picture shows a test with both turn signal and side markers smoked; the second picture is what the car looks like now.

I have LED bulbs in both the turn signals and side markers, and there is no issue with visibility. However, I have to make an official disclaimer: they are designed for off-road use, and using them on the street is at your own risk.

 

I dont get it, but at least its better than all clear. TBH it just looks rice. But drifting is amazingly fun. There is just something about having the car sideways and making continuous and consecutive sliding turns.

 

Can't have a blacked out S2 without blacking out the wheels too!
