OT: oem parts or aftermarket?
as our cars get older and require more work, do you prefer to get oem parts, or do you settle for quality aftermarket parts?
case in point....your brake pads wear out...do you call the stealer and pay 100 bucks for pads? do you go to napa or autozone and get the cheapest fix you can or do you shop around and find a quality name brand brake pad from napa/autozone/porsche catalog?
i try to use common sense when i buy parts. brake pads..my *** is at the napa parts counter to get the best quality pad they have.....however, i noticed that exhaust work was done to my car by the PO. it looks to have been a close match with the oval tip welded at the end.....after seeing porsche exhaust prices and aftermarket prices...i agreee with the PO!!!!!!

Only a few things I would get OEM...updated motor mounts, timing/balance belts, custom bolts, etc. Most everything else on the car has been surpassed with modern technology allowing an upgrade of stock...for example, brake pads, rotors, shocks/struts, springs, turbos, piping, mufflers, wastegates, electronic boost controllers, fuel injectors, engine management computers, wheels, tires, etc. Since most of the aftermarket stuff is priced less than dealer/OEM parts, and it works better, why not?

Don't forget that some aftermarket replacement parts suppliers also supply OEM. You can often get either OEM quality or indeed the very same part through an aftermarket supplier. This is not alway the case. Just be smart.
I'm curious about the OEM belts....
Why doesn't anyone use Gates belts? Have there been known problems? Gates is an OEM supplier (not on the 944) and produces OEM quality belts. I'm just curious.

even if that was a typo, it would still make sense.
