1. Good for you. I am the same way with my cars. I would fix them up at a greater cost then replacing them every time. It is one of the things that makes us car guys.
2. I was in my Jeep last year when some sixteen year old kid rear ends me as I was accelerating off a stop light behind a trash truck. I was apparently not going fast enough for him. It should have been the trash truck. It turned out he totalled his car because he was texting instead of driving. There was a black smudge on the home made (rattle can painted) gas tank skid of my Jeep to show for it. I hope he learned his lesson. Sometimes justice is served.

The project is developing into more of a full restoration...
I have ordered new seals for the doors and sunroof, new hood liner, new badges and decals for the rear; new receiver with iPod controls.
Once the car gets to paint (hopefully Monday); the painter is going to have a local upholstery guy have a look at the interior. The seats need recovering and the headliner needs to be replaced. I am going to shift from Burgundy to Black. (I have most of the pieces)
Stay tuned for progress. I am asking for "visitation" while the car is at the painter, and hope to have pics as the restoration progresses.

Pete, no better time to address all those seals, that's for sure. Just had my 941 repainted this winter, and I've been going through exactly the same process. Some of the seals can be brought back with a good rubber cleaner, but some need outright replacing. But what a difference when it all goes back together. You won't regret doing it the right way, I can tell you that!

You might want to think about having them remove the rear quarter windows and front window trim as well. I am sure you have discussed this with them. Usually, many body shop guys do not have the experience removing the rear quarter windows and do not want to put up with the hassel of getting an auto window shop to stop by and remove and later re-install the quarter windows.
