Default Did new 944's idle "ruff" at start up?

Seems to be a lot people trying to solve the ruff starting/idle of these cars (when the engine is cold). Mine isnt bad but definitely doesnt "purr" initially..it takes about 2-3 minutes.

I cant think they did this when new...did they? It's not a big issue but it would be nice to to turn the key and have the idle be perfectly smooth. My car idles fine (800) when warmed up. Is this just an inherent problem?

I just think it is the nature of the beast.

I have had my Black 944 23 years. I bought it new and it has always idled rough until warmed up.

Default slightly rough on cold start

I've been scratching my head for months on the same thing - slightly rough on cold but purrrrrrfect after 2 minutes. I've got a 944s ( 88) - I think the idle control value might be the real cuprit - needs a clean out - but not easy to get to and check on the 16v. I'm just living with it.

Nice to know I'm not alone - thanks for your posting

I think everyone is spoiled by modern EFI; compared to a feedback carb that many cars still used in the mid-80's, or a TBI system, these cars do pretty well.

i don't know what you guys are complaining about...my car had to warm up a little before it smoothed out, but it wasn't that bad...the new engine hates the cold much more than the old one did...i have to let it sit for a good 5 minutes before it will idle really smooth. I think that's partially because i have the emissions stuff deleted and two of the four O2 sensors deleted.

anyway...i like how they idle a little rough at first, i hate new cars and their silent start ups and perfect idles...yuck!
