My '86 951 has 4x6" openings, for sure. I was just in there fixing one this weekend. I think a decent set of 4x6' plus a reasonable sub (single 8" or 10" is a good stereo setup for most music, having 6" rear holes stock would be nice though.
If anyone needs a set of 4x6 speakers for the rear, I have a nice pair of infinity reference series from my old car, they sounded good. make me an offer.

It is actually VERY close. I removed the adapter, and cut a new one with a dremel tool from some sheet metal to fit 6.5's in my '88 944S.
With your 924, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND tracing out where you plan on cutting first. OR think about sending the 6.5's back and purchasing another set of 4x6's....then investing in a subwoofer enclosure from KLA or something of that sort. I also have 6x9 4-way Kenwoods purchased for 60 brand-new on ebay installed in boxes purchased new for 15 dollars on ebay connected to an amp. They also sound great and added more bass than the 6.5's.

That is a great site. I called around about a year ago to find a service place for my blaupunkt honolulu. Nobody in town would work on them. Only last week did I get it working again (the solder joints where the harness met the mainboard for the speaker outputs needed re-soldering). Now it works great again. Nice to know of a site which services blau's though!

Well, I'm gonna keep the 6.5's and cut the hole. I'll take pics along the way. I used the pattern that came with the speakers, so I know exactly where I'm cutting. Depending on how they sound, I may add a sub in the rear cubby, and wire the 4 speakers to the amp while I'm at it, not sure yet.
Chris- i would recommend midwest-usa.com if your going with blaupunkt stuff, great prices
Thanks again for the help, and I'll let everyone know how it goes. BTW i got the receiver in and it sounds great!

OK, here are the pics of the installation and finished product. It came out pretty good, but I had to cut alot of the panel. If I were to do it over again I would probably just do 4x6's in the rear as well. It does sound good, though, so I don't have any complaints. Here are the pics:
