"neglected" 86 951 makes me sad...
I saw a very sad sight yesterday. There is a clean Guards over black 86 951 that was sold from my wrench's place about 2 years ago(I happened to be in the shop when the new owners were picking it up). It is a bone-stock original with about 70K(at the time of purchase), very well taken care of, no dash cracks, clean PD's, nice paint, etc..
It turns out, the new owners live near my GF, they are not what you would call "enthusiasts". they are an older couple who just wanted a "fun car". Every time I drive to my GF's , I slow down to check out the car, as it is parked outside year-round, without a cover! I hadn't seen it moved since last Spring.
Yesterday, I was driving to the GF's, and I see a flat-bed pulled up to the car, so naturally I stop, and start talking to the tow guy who looks confused as to how to attach the car and get it on the flatbed. I BS w/him and ask "what's the deal?" He says, the clutch pedal is to the floor and he had to "jimmy" the locks to get in because the owners couldn't find the keys! Then the owner comes out with the spare key which he just found. I BS'd w/ him for a minute, and he told me again that the clutch pedal was to the floor, battery was dead, (from the looks of it tires were flat-spotted too). I told him if he ever wanted to sell, I would be interested(at which point his wife seemed to perk up), unfortunately, he said "not interested", so I headed down the road.
It kills me to see such a nice stock example neglected. Just had to rant a little, hopefully the wife will "work" on the husband, and he may be inclined to sell in a year or so.

It kills me to see cars like that. I saw a 928 like that at some point too. It was pretty beat up from what I could tell, interior trashed etc. I believe it was an 83 or so. When the "for sale" sign was attached I was suprised that he still wanted well over 6K for it.

What you could do (always works on the wife in that situation) is come back by and knock on the door with $3000 (or whatever its worth to you) in cash in your hand. No one can say no to a fist full of cash, especialy if you bring it in $20's.

Same kind of crazy stuff here....old silver 911 (never got close enough to look to figure out what year), but it was under a car cover for many years, never moved, now sits in the open in the weather, still never moves. At one point the engine was out of it and it looks like it's back in and has been for a while, but it's never been gone from there. I've never had enough money to stop in and ask about buying it just to save it though....
Speaking of wasted and trashed, that reminds me of most of the 944s I've seen for sale around here....so sad.

For several years there was a mid-70s 911E parked on a side road near my house with grass growing up around it. I stopped and looked a few times but it was just too much of a 'project' for my ability and pocketbook.
Flash forward five years. I just realized a few months ago that the same car is now owned by a member of my PCA region - who did a ground up restoration!
Some of these stories have happy endings.
